Mad in America publishes "The Case Against Antipsychotics" 
Some of you may be interested in reading Robert Whitaker from Mad in America new research paper entitled "The Case Against Antipsychotics: A Review of Their Long-term Effects". The 40-pages research paper seeks to present a succinct review of what science has to say about the long-term effects of antipsychotics.

The Mental Health Foundation (UK) recently published a comprehensive report on the link between mental health and poverty and how to address it. We invite our members and readers interested in the issue to read the report which covers issues such as parity of esteem, life course approach, and mental health in all policies.

Survey: using European Funds for Deinstitutionalisation (DI) 

Structural Funds Watch is an independent initiative monitoring the use of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) in the transition from institutional care to family and community based living. If you have direct experience in the use of the ESIF to support the transition from institutional care to community based living we would like to invite you to answer their ongoing survey which will help identify promising practices and barriers faced in using the funds for deinstitutionalisation (DI).

In Memoriam: Peter Lambreghts 
MHE Secretariat was deeply saddened to hear of Peter Lambreghts from ENIL passing last week. All our thoughts are with Peter, his family and friends. What a terrible loss for the European disability community. Peter will always be a great inspiration for us all and we cannot thank him enough for all the work he did fighting for deinstitutionalisation in Europe. We will never forget you Peter ! To continue and support his work, you can send contributions to the Flemish Independent Living organization which he was employed with. Please contact Koen Depauw for more details. 
MHE at Disability Matters conference in Paris
On June 24, MHE Director Akiko Hart was in Paris to present at the "Disability Matters" conference. This conference was the opportunity to discuss with public and private stakeholders of the importance of the mental health promotion at work. Call for information: Mental Health and Ageing 

Given MHE's lifespan approach to mental health and the importance placed on active ageing within the EU agenda, MHE will seek to build capacity on mental health and ageing over the coming year. MHE encourages its members to share their expertise on the issue. If your organisation has provided services catered to older persons or if have written policy guidelines on the treatment of older persons please get in touch with MHE Policy Manager Alva
FRA report on migration, disability and mental health determinants

Read the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights report on the role NGOs play to support refugees arriving in the EU. The report covers issues including the identification and reception conditions for persons with disabilities and includes a specific chapter on mental health determinants and support.

New study on anti-stigma campaign and public attitudes 
A new study provides interesting insights on the impact of mental health anti-stigma campaigns on public attitudes. Researchers found that mental health stigma is falling in England but stark differences remain between men and women when it comes to talking about mental health. The data evaluates the impact of the UK Time to Change anti-stigma campaign. The English data was presented alongside that from campaigns in Sweden and Canada between 2008 and 2014.

Members Spotlight
Save the date: DGSP annual congress: 6-8 October in Berlin
MHE member organisation DGSP will hold its Annual Congress in Berlin on 6-8th October. Once more, the DGSP puts Europe at the centre of the discussions and will organise "European workshops" as part of the event. The discussions will seek to examine 40 years of reforms of psychiatry in Germany and how to address new challenges. If you wish to register, please contact for further information. MHE Director Akiko Hart will be presenting at the event, and we do hope to see some of you there!
