MHE publishes position paper on Art.12 of the UN CRPD 
MHE just released its position paper on Art.12 of the UN CRPD on legal capacity. The paper provides guidance to stakeholders on what legal capacity means to the lives of persons with psychosocial disabilities. MHE calls on European countries to bring their legislation in line with the UN CRPD and stop using coercion  in mental health systems.

Register now: webinar "Employment for all" 
On the 15th March from 14:00-16:00 MHE will organise a live webinar on access to the labour market for people living with mental ill health. The objective of this webinar is to explore labour market participation and existing international employment schemes for people living with mental ill health. Speakers include Bob Grove from MHE and Stefan Tromel from the International Labour Organization.

Introducing the EUMH Alliance new website
MHE and members of the European Alliance for Mental Health – Employment & Work recently presented the new website of the coalition. The EUMH Alliance is an informal coalition of European organisations, the main aims of which are to promote mental health and well-being in the workplace and  advocate for equal access to the labour market for all people experiencing mental ill health.

News from institutions and other bodies
EU Commission publishes progress report on the Disability Strategy 
DG Employment & Social affairs recently published a progress report on the implementation of the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020. The report evaluates the implementation of the CRPD committee’s recommendations. Mental health is referenced in a few places including MHE's work on Mapping Exclusion and the Joint Action.

How to track the EU Parliament legislative progress 
The EU Parliament's tool called the "legislative train schedule" allows you to monitor the progress of legislative files identified in the 10 priorities of the European Commission. The legislative dossiers are represented by carriages, which are placed on tracks or in stations depending on their current status (initiative blocked, being discussed or finalised by the EU Parliament).

AisMe launches Italian Mental Health Platform 

MHE member organisation AISMe recently held the official launch conference of the Italian Platform for Mental Health in Florence, Italy. The Platform gathers 4 national and regional Italian organisations. Its main objective is to ensure mental health and well being remain on local and national policy agendas and to strengthen the voice of users in Italy.

Event on mental health & active ageing in the EU Parliament
MHE held a successful event in the EU Parliament to discuss active ageing and why it matters to mental health. With more than 50 people in the room, the event gathered experts and policy makers including the Irish Minister for Mental Health and Older People Helen Mc Entee. Joint statement on mental health in Europe for the EU Health Policy Platform 

The joint statement prepared by Mental Health Europe and EUFAMI calling for more action on mental health in Europe was endorsed by 15 other European organisations. It formulates proposals on how to ensure the EU addresses mental health in an integrated way.

MEPs adopt strategy on gender equality in mental health  
The EU Parliament adopted a report laying out a strategy on promoting gender equality in mental health and clinical trials, co-authored by MEP Julie Ward, member of MHE Coalition for Mental Health and Well-being in the Parliament. The report calls for a follow up to the Joint Action and a psychosocial approach to mental health.

The EU expresses commitment to ratify the Istanbul Convention
As member of the European Coalition to end violence against women, MHE was pleased to see the three European Institutions (European Commission, Parliament and Council Presidency) signed a Joint Statement in Malta calling on Member States to ratify and implement the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.

Maskshivim net publishes an article on e-recovery 

MHE Israelian member organisation Makshivim net recently published an article about e-recovery  in the International Journal of Psychosocial Rehabilitation. The article looks at the potential of using the internet as a rehabilitation tool.

EEG Seminar in Cyprus

Last month, MHE board member Kitty Mylonopoulou from the Society of Social Psychiatry and Mental Health (Greece) participated in the EEG's seminar on the transition from  institutional to community – based care in Nicosia, Cyprus. Kitty presented good practices in the area of mental health recovery and deinstitutionalisation.

New name for two Dutch member organisations

MHE Dutch member organisations Fonds Psychische Gezondheid and Landelijk Platform GGZ have now merged to become one organisation called MIND. See their new website here:
