I am eager to share some news and resources with you this month, but first, I want to send a heartfelt THANK YOU to our Hearts of Hope members who committed their sustaining support in our recent campaign. See below for a recap of the campaign.
The biggest news is that we are starting a trial of in-person groups this week. We are starting with small, physically-distanced groups. This trial period will inform the rest of the process. I am proud of our team who continue to be flexible and innovative in the face of change. See below for more details on this week's soft opening.
If you have questions or want to learn more about what we are doing, please give me a call! I look forward to connecting with you!
Our Education Blog focuses on care partners
Our latest education blog, written by our own Brooke Oliver, provides information and resources to those of you who love and care for a person with aphasia.
"The quality of life for a person with aphasia strongly depends on their supportive network. It is imperative that family members and caregivers are given the resources and tools they need to help their loved one." Read more here...
Small Steps to a New Normal
This week, we are cautiously opening our doors to small in-person groups. Our first priority is the safety of our members and staff, but we also recognize that the isolation of the pandemic has been difficult for our members.
This trial period will help inform how we proceed. We continue to review recommendations from the CDC and local government and will be conservative at each step to protect the safety of our members. We certainly hope that the vaccine roll-out will make our community safer, but reserve the right to step back, if necessary.
If you would like to learn more about the policies and procedures that we have put in place to keep everyone safe, please call or email! If you would like to talk to us about joining our in-person group, contact Debbie directly.
Would you like a tour of our new center? Email Debbie to set up a time! We would love to show you around!
Hearts of Hope Campaign Update
Thank you to all of you who have joined our Hearts of Hope Club! Your support helps us ensure we can continue to provide innovative and engaging programs to people with aphasia and those who love them.
A special thank you to our generous board member, Des Welch, who posed a challenge to me in the last week of the campaign. For every new club member, Des pledged to add $25 dollars to his own existing monthly contribution.
"When I challenged Debbie to bring in more members, I thought I would be increasing my contribution for two or three more people - I am blown away by this show of support and proud to increase my contribution for the 9 additional club members!"
The club is now 34 members strong!
You can join the club any time! We can only offer our programs thanks to your help! A donation of any amount, either monthly or one-time, is greatly appreciated and goes directly to support the initiatives described in this email and on our website at www.vohaphasia.org. We thank you for your continued support.
