From Cape to Cairo

Veritas is privileged to serve the church in 18 countries on the African continent.

South Africa

How amazing it is to sit around God’s Word. Reading, understanding, applying and living the Word together bring believers from different denominations, cultures and languages together in South Africa.
Pray with us that this will grow and help to bring healing to this land and its people!

The training of approximately 2 000 modules a year in South Africa is made possible by more than 100 volunteer church facilitators. They form the heart of the multiplication model we follow. Some sources indicate that there are more than 160,000 church leaders without training in the country.
Pray with us that we will be able to reach those leaders who are most in need of training.

A trained pastor from Trompsburg (a small rural town in the Free State) started training local leaders to minister in many local churches. These leaders now serve in the small rural churches and they will continue long after the pastor has retired. Here are some testimonies from these leaders:

  • A new world opened for me.
  • It is the first time I understand the Bible.
  • I had the opportunity to preach for the first time … the feedback from the congregation was encouraging.
  • People still talk about my sermon from 2 weeks ago, even people from other denominations.
  • I am now always ready to preach or bring a message.

This need for training is found in many of South Africa’s rural areas. Churches are in decline and members suffer because of a growing lack of leadership. Veritas College SA makes a big difference in helping to address this critical need.

Many domestic workers in the suburbs live at their workplace and only visit their home churches from time to time. Some local churches reach out to them to create a spiritual home away from home. In Bloemfontein one of these outreaches to Sotho women uses the Veritas modules to equip them. Some of these ladies even became facilitators and train others.

Cairo

In March 2018 Veritas held a graduation ceremony in Cairo, Egypt. It was attended by church representatives from a spectrum of Egyptian denominations. The main speaker was Dr. Andrea Zaki, president of the Protestant Community of Egypt. He expressed his concern that much of the theological training in the country is not up to standard. The guest speaker was Dr. Ron Kroll from the US, Director of the Commission on Accreditation of the Association of Biblical Higher Education.

MA degrees were awarded to eight graduates, a Graduate Diploma to one, Diplomas to three and the Certificate IV in Biblical Ministry to six graduates from the Coptic Church.

All the Veritas qualifications, from the non-formal modules to the Australian accredited Diplomas and the US Authorized graduate degrees, are competency based. Students develop ministry skills while serving in their local churches.
