Dear Partner

GST survey

We recently sent out a survey to gauge members reactions to the news that P&R would like to introduce a Goods and Services Tax (GST).  The results are attached.  I would like to thank you to all those of you that responded, these surveys keep us informed as to your thoughts and opinions and help us feedback reliable information to government.  They are very important to our work.

I have written to P&R with our findings.  I very much hope that they find ways to share a future tax burden fairly or look at ways to stimulate our town and population which would help retail, tourism and hospitality, create jobs and tax take.

Cruise Visits

Harbours have finally produced their official list of cruise liner visits. I hope your bookings are finally coming in for this year.  We continue to keep a close eye on how these visits develop and are exploring how we can work with Visit Guernsey to attract more appropriate sized ships.  If you have any changes to your existing offerings which have a focus on sustainability or any new products/services, please would you notify Amanda Johns in order that she can ensure VisitGuernsey are aware of up to date information when they are liaising with cruise liners/agents etc.  You can contact her via secretary@tourism.gg

Cruise meet and greet

A reminder that The Economic Development Committee are inviting quotes from experienced companies, organisations or individuals interested in providing  a Cruise Meet and Greet service in 2022.

In 2022 the Bailiwick is expecting around 80 visiting cruise ships and they are looking for a service that is warm and welcoming with a good knowledge of the Islands.

For full information, or to request the tender details, e-mail visitguernsey@gov.gg

The closing date for submissions is Friday 11th March

Destination Management Organisation

Economic development have commissioned a Destination Management Organisation report as part of their research into how the marketing of the Islands for tourism can be managed in the future.

Keith Beecham ex CEO of Jersey tourism will be visiting Guernsey at the beginning of March to have round table meetings with the members of tourism industry which will feed into this.  If you have a particular interest in this please let me know.

Guernsey Information Centre

Over the last few months the service at the information centre has been supplemented by the work of a number of part-time staff, most of them tour guides.

The skills of the tour guides are perfect for this role.  As the season approaches and hopefully we all get more bookings, it may become more difficult for the information centre stay full staffed.  If you feel you can help out by joining the rota (they are paid positions) no matter how small the commitment, please just get in touch or pop into the information centre to have a chat.

GTP Membership

You should all be now have received your Invoices for the £10 GTP membership fee, thank you all that have managed to pay the subscription and for the many donations

This fee simply goes towards covering essential costs that are levied on organisations, the committee give our time and personal resources free of charge.  If you have missed the invoice we would be delighted if you could dig it out and support us!
