City Manager Update

New Library Director

We are excited to announce that Janice Hammond-Akel will join Larkspur as the City’s new Library Director. Janice is currently the City Librarian for the City of Palm Desert, and has over 25 years of experience working in public, academic, and legal libraries in the United States, England, and New Zealand. Prior to her role in Palm Desert, Janice worked for the Rancho Mirage Public Library. Janice has a Master's of Library Sciences and is a published non-fiction author. Her first day with Larkspur is October 10th.

Leaf Blower Ordinance

At the September 21st City Council meeting, staff presented an overview of potential options for regulating leaf blower use in Larkspur. After hearing the report and feedback from members of the community, the City Council directed staff to return with model ordinances outlining different options for restricting leaf blower use. Staff anticipates bringing the item before the Council at one of the regularly scheduled City Council meetings in November.

285 Magnolia Ave Construction

Heavy construction activities for the mixed–use project at 285 Magnolia Avenue (across from the Lark Creek Shops) have concluded. The project, comprised of four dwelling units and two small storefront sites, was approved by the Planning Commission and City Council in 2014. Construction has proceeded at a brisk pace since work began in September of 2015. Only finishing work and landscaping remain to be completed and the property owners anticipate occupancy of the building within the next 1-2 months.

Chamber of Commerce Progressive Mixer

The Chamber of Commerce is holding a progressive mixer on October 5th at 5:00 pm in the North Magnolia neighborhood. Chamber members and prospective members are invited to visit seven local businesses and build business and community connections while enjoying a stroll along north Magnolia Avenue in an evening of networking and shopping. More information can be found at www.larkspurchamber.org.

Transportation Survey

The Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) is asking for community feedback on transportation options and challenges when traveling in Marin. This is a great way to share your experiences and hopes for Marin's transportation future. The survey can be found at www.gettingaroundmarin.com and will remain open through October 21st.
