Week Sixteen

The “Dear Church” series explores the pastoral letters of John (1 John, 2 John, 3 John) and the Book of Revelation. Throughout these texts, John encourages the church and helps them navigate living like Jesus in the real world while anticipating the life to come.

Psalm for the Day: Psalm 4

O God, because without you we are not able to please you,
mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct
and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives
and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and
for ever. Amen.

The Kerns Family is having a 90th birthday celebration for Elizabeth (Libby) Kerns on Saturday, September 24 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2618 Seneca St., St. Joseph from 2-5pm.

Life Line Screening
Every 17 seconds someone is diagnosed with diabetes. The American Diabetes Association’s website states that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless steps are taken to stop this disease. Early detection is critical. This is why Clair United Methodist Church is hosting Life Line Screening, the nation’s leading provider of preventive health screenings on Thursday, November 17, 2016.

Charge Conference
Sunday, September 25th, 2016, 6:30 PM at Ashland UMC is our Charge Conference. All church board members are strongly encouraged to attend.

UMCOR Relief Supply Kits
We will be collecting donations to help those in areas affected by the extreme flooding. Each bucket kit costs $65. You can find more information here. You can give directly to UMCOR online at that link, or make a donation through our church with the note "flood relief". Thank you for being generous.

Festival of Sharing
This year we are assisting the Missouri food box.  The boxes will have items to feed a family for a few days.  Lists of the items we need for the boxes are at church. If you prefer,  you can just give money and the Missions Committee will purchase any necessary items. Our youth group will take to Sedalia, so please deliver your items to church no later than October 9, 2016
Opportunity to learn about foster care
Currently, Judicial Circuit 5 (which includes Andrew and Buchanan counties) has 74 children in foster care and only 48 licensed homes. Our goal is to increase the number of foster homes in each county so that foster children can stay within their own community. To that end, Healthy Families is once again hosting an information meeting that is open to anyone interested in foster parenting.
The Most Rewarding Challenge: an introduction to foster parenting
