What have we been up to this week?

Oh, hello! Monday is newsletter day, so here's the 65th ScourgeBringer open development newsletter issue.

Previously on ScourgeBringer: we started to work on the item and shop system.


Before we begin, I'd like to come back on a point that many of you have noticed and raised concerns: we have about 6 months of budget left. While this is true on paper, what the numbers don't tell is that it only reflects what we actually earned and got paid, and excludes pending payments. If we were to include pending stuff, we would be above 12 months of remaining budget. We choose to not include pending deals to better reflect the fluctuations of our daily life. That said: everything's fine on the budget front and the production is secured to its completion. We will also soon have an announcement regarding the game's funding which should pretty much settle down the matter.

Back to last week! We continued to work on the shop system and toward having a workable alpha.

The shop system is now pretty much done! We still have a few tweaks to do and have to add more types of items to it, but the system is playable.

In anticipation for the alpha, we opened up a community manager position for someone to join the team about 2 days per week to help us managing the feedback and the newsletter while we grow the game. We already started to receive cool applications and hopefully we'll welcome a new person to the team.

On Friday we went on a road trip to meet with the Dear Villagers crew, talking about alpha preparations and the welcoming of the community manager.

The alpha access is getting pretty close now, and we will surely have special details in the next newsletter. Get ready! And don't forget that you can the alpha on our Discord.

This week, we are mostly working on the menus and options, which are the last bits we'd like to see in the alpha before it begins. Stay tuned! 😉

How is our budget doing?

Every week, we update our production budget based on our initial budget and our ongoing revenues.

ScourgeBringer budget is counted in "months of subsistence" instead of money. We believe that it is a more understandable way to explain how budgets are constructed and consumed.

Our remaining budget is: 6.60 months (28.70 weeks)*

  • So far, we consumed -15.18 months (-66 weeks) from working of this project;
  • And we consumed -1.22 months (-5.30 weeks) from investing (e.g. buying hardware, paying for services...);
  • We also earned back +11.00 months (+47.83 weeks) from our ongoing revenues (e.g. NeuroVoider & Boo! Greedy Kid sales, contract work...).

Our initial budget for ScourgeBringer was 12 months when we started.

*1 week = 0.23 month (based on a 365-day year and a 7-day week)
