What have we been up to this week?

Oh hi! This is the 73rd issue of the ScourgeBringer open development newsletter, welcome!

Previously on ScourgeBringer: we released the Alpha 3 to testers with the Altars of Blood.


Last week, we continued to follow our roadmap and worked on the permanent skill tree and the hub world.

Work on the skill tree and the base set of skills that will release with Alpha 4 is pretty much done! Which means that all major user interfaces are now complete. They are going to be fine tuned and probably slightly changed, but the fact that their backbone is ready is quite a milestone (we are getting closer to only work on content). Speaking of the skill tree UI, here's sneak peek.



As you may see, we took the "tree" concept quite literally and this will come together once the hub world will be complete (and the story bits integrated).

Speaking of the hub world, Florian has mostly finished his work on it and passed the torch to me to implement it. Which is basically what I am going to do this week. It's going to be a pretty big deal and we're trying to squeeze its integration within a single week to ship a demo to showcase at the Gamescom! Hence, our current effort is exclusively focused on the Gamescom, after which we will add NPC support to the game and call that Alpha 4. Joonas, on his end, is back from a rejuvenating vacation and is working on the sounds of the new weapons and the Altars of Blood (which shipped soundless).

En route to Alpha 4 and the Gamescome! Can't wait to share more about the hub world and NPCs, it will surely add more relevancy to the game world.

How is our budget doing?

Every week, we update our production budget based on our initial budget and our ongoing revenues.

ScourgeBringer budget is counted in "months of subsistence" instead of money. We believe that it is a more understandable way to explain how budgets are constructed and consumed.

Our remaining budget is: 8.76 months (38.08 weeks)*

  • So far, we consumed -17.02 months (-74 weeks) from working of this project;
  • And we consumed -1.22 months (-5.30 weeks) from investing (e.g. buying hardware, paying for services...);
  • We also earned back +15.00 months (+65.21 weeks) from our ongoing revenues (e.g. NeuroVoider & Boo! Greedy Kid sales, contract work...).

Our initial budget for ScourgeBringer was 12 months when we started.

*1 week = 0.23 month (based on a 365-day year and a 7-day week)
