What have we been up to this week?

Hey hey hey! Isn't that the 71st ScourgeBringer open development newsletter issue? I bet it is!

Previously on ScourgeBringer: we started to work on Alpha 3 and added a fast travel system to the game. We also started to work on the temporary upgrade system.

Last week, we continued to follow our Alpha 3 schedule by finishing up the temporary upgrade system. Florian has made some pretty awesome animations for that system!

This new system is tentatively named The Altars of Blood, and each level will have one of them offering you a choice of 2 to 4 upgrades. These will last only for the duration of a run and will not carry over. This system will be the main run diversificator (we plan to add more stuff but for now it is still a bit fuzzy). Alpha 3 will ship with 12 different Blood Blessings.

With that being done, Alpha 3 is pretty much ready! We are still going to fine tune a few things and address more feedback, but it's probably safe to say that Alpha 3 will release next week. So stay tuned!

In the meantime, we started to work on the permanent skill tree. This will ship with Alpha 4. I can't remember if I shared this graphical roadmap in the newsletter yet, so here you go!

We've already worked quite a bunch on the skill tree, though the biggest feature here will be the hub zone from where the skill tree will be accessible. Florian is currently working on designing that zone and making it memorable since you will visit it a lot. Joonas is still having some well needed vacations, but he already completed the hub zone music.

Looks like we're on a steady pace to deliver the Alpha updates! Though that's it for today, see you next week for Alpha 3's release!

How is our budget doing?

Every week, we update our production budget based on our initial budget and our ongoing revenues.

ScourgeBringer budget is counted in "months of subsistence" instead of money. We believe that it is a more understandable way to explain how budgets are constructed and consumed.

Our remaining budget is: 9.22 months (40.08 weeks)*

  • So far, we consumed -16.56 months (-72 weeks) from working of this project;
  • And we consumed -1.22 months (-5.30 weeks) from investing (e.g. buying hardware, paying for services...);
  • We also earned back +15.00 months (+65.21 weeks) from our ongoing revenues (e.g. NeuroVoider & Boo! Greedy Kid sales, contract work...).

Our initial budget for ScourgeBringer was 12 months when we started.

For a more detailed breakdown of our budget construction, you can refer to the first issue of this newsletter.
*1 week = 0.23 month (based on a 365-day year and a 7-day week)
