What have we been up to this week?

Hi there! Your 26th ScourgeBringer open development newsletter has landed in your mailbox!

Previously on ScourgeBringer: we were at Gamescom and we had a ton of very cool discussions about the future of ScourgeBringer, as well as meeting with friends and some of you!

Last week has been very calm. Florian had an extra week of vacations in order to finish building the room of his imminent son, and I took that opportunity to work full time on the Nintendo Switch port that I have been contracted to do for another studio.

The cool thing is that this port is now complete and we will be back full time on ScourgeBringer starting this Tuesday! 💪

We don't have much news to share this time around, but we have something to celebrate! It's NeuroVoider's anniversary! 🎉🎉🎉

NeuroVoider initially released on Steam 2 years ago (on 31st of August), while the Nintendo Switch version released 1 year ago (on the 3rd of September)! It also released mid-way on Xbox and PlayStation but the true milestone is the Steam release.

This is a good time to celebrate and reflect on this adventure! This is the two of us on the very moment we pushed the release button on Steam after 2 years of intense development.

We were genuinely excited! (and quite possibly half-drunk)

The start of the game has been quite a difficult moment (we almost bankrupted making the game!), but we pushed forward, made more content for the game, released it on consoles, and we are very happy to announce that the game has now sold more than 60 000 copies over the world! We couldn't make it without the awesome community that you are, so very special thank you to you! (yes, YOU!) Without this success, we wouldn't be there today to work on ScourgeBringer (and believe us, it was a really close call).

We're also happy to announce that NeuroVoider will have a physical release on PS Vita later this year through Limited Run Games! Keep an eye on their announcements!

We will be celebrating NeuroVoider all over the week, so stay tuned for games giveaways and more! We will select a few newsletter subscribers for goodies!

NeuroVoider is 30% on the Nintendo eShop to celebrate!
We scheduled at first that it would be on sale at the same time on Steam, but we misfired and it was last week, d'oh!

Later this year, we will have another big milestone to celebrate: Flying Oak Games 5th anniversary! We are trying to setup something cool around this, so definitely stay tuned.

See you next week for new ScourgeBringer progress!

How is our budget doing?

Every week, we update our production budget based on our initial budget and our ongoing revenues.

ScourgeBringer budget is counted in "months of subsistence" instead of money. We believe that it is a more understandable way to explain how budgets are constructed and consumed.

Our remaining budget is: 10.30 months (44.78 weeks)*

  • So far, we consumed -5.98 months (-26 weeks) from working of this project;
  • And we consumed -0.22 months (-0.96 weeks) from investing (e.g. buying hardware, paying for services...);
  • We also earned back +4.50 months (+19.57 weeks) from our ongoing revenues (e.g. NeuroVoider & Boo! Greedy Kid sales, contract work...).

Our initial budget for ScourgeBringer was 12 months when we started.

For a more detailed breakdown of our budget construction, you can refer to the first issue of this newsletter.
*1 week = 0.23 month (based on a 365-day year and a 7-day week)

The weekly Twitch stream

Every Wednesdays (afternoon Pacific time / evening European time), Thomas shows our progress with a development stream. Alternatively, he will show one of our preferred games and chat with you about why we love this game!

There was no stream this week because Thomas was busy on contract work for another studio! The streams should resume on the 5th of September! (Yeah, it's the third delay in a row, so hopefully this one is going to be the good one. =P )
