ECMS presents

New Orford String Quartet

With Cho-Liang Lin (violin)
and Orion Weiss (piano)

Saturday, April 1, 2017  |  7:30 PM

ROBERTSON-WESLEY UNITED CHURCH
10209 – 123 Street NW  Edmonton, AB

The Edmonton Chamber Music Society presents a magical evening of romantic and impressionistic music composed for string quartet, violin, and piano.

The program features Chausson’s Concerto in D Major for Violin, Piano and String Quartet, in addition to Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2 (with its blues slow movement) and Debussy’s String Quartet in G Minor.

Dr. Patricia Tao says, “We know that the New Orford String Quartet is a wonderful group! ECMS has had both violinists perform at the summer festival a number of times.”

Cho-Liang Lin has had a major career as a violin soloist, having performed with major orchestras and recorded on Sony, Decca, Naxos, and BIS. He was featured in an ECMS main season concert and is well-known to Edmonton audiences. He is currently Artistic Director of the La Jolla Music Society SummerFest, held annually in California.

Orion Weiss is a young but already well-respected and established piano soloist. He has performed with the Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto, and National Arts Centre Symphonies.

With a fabulous repertoire and these six stars, we anticipate a delightful evening. To complement the musical treat, plan to join the audience, donors, interns, volunteers, and ECMS Board for wine and snacks at the intermission.

Summer Solstice Music Festival
June 21 – 25, 2017

Edmonton’s first summer chamber music festival celebrates its 10th birthday this year. Set aside June 21–25 for a series of inspiring and entertaining events. If you have never sampled the energy of this festival, maybe 2017 is the year to give it a try.

Krzysztof Jablonski will open the Festival with a solo piano recital on June 21. Other events include the young, vibrant, and polished Attacca Quartet; a piano master class; Canadian compositions; a relaxed evening at Yellowhead Brewery, and a daytime concert in Ledcor Theatre at the Art Gallery of Alberta.

Day and night, you will be able to enjoy five wonderful days of chamber music. Tickets will be on sale at our final concert on April 27, and through TIX on the Square and The Gramophone.
