Shockwave Motors: Moving Forward With Relentless Determination
About 10 months ago we had the basic design for Draco Sports Trike™ finished and we began ordering the components necessary to build the Trike. We also began interviewing fabricators that had experience in building “sand rail” dune buggies. We chose the best fabricator in a nearby state. We discussed the project in great detail and, in January, signed a Nondisclosure Agreement, a build contract, and paid a 50% deposit. We then provided detailed build diagrams. All made with the promise that the rolling chassis would be completed in 60 days.
After 90 days with no progress we started calling once a week politely encouraging progress while listening to his excuses - including his friends always bring in something that he needs to repair! After almost 7 months he finally completed the main chassis – but not the front steering. The front of the Draco is a lot like any “sand rail” dune buggy. Not to mention the fact that we provided complete front suspension build diagrams; as well as the possibility of using of “off-the-shelf” components.
With another two months of delays and no progress – enough was enough, no more Mr. Nice Guy. I terminated the contract, and picked up the chassis. Now we are actually moving forward talking to local fabricators, with vital steering components on order, scheduled to arrive within a few weeks!
Below is the picture of the chassis back in Tennessee.
