Arboretum Explorer: Can't-miss happenings at your Arboretum
Mid-May 2021

Introducing A Life in the Wild

This spring, connect with your wild side at The North Carolina Arboretum with not just one art exhibit, but two! In conjunction with our ongoing Wild Art outdoor sculpture showcase you can now journey through A Life in the Wild, a traveling exhibition of breathtaking images from award-winning nature photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen. You won't want to miss this retrospective look at nearly four decades of work documenting wild places across the globe and the remarkable creatures that inhabit them. The exhibit is on display daily, May 15 – September 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside the Baker Visitor Center.

The Bonsai Are Back!

After spending the winter tucked away from the elements, the Arboretum's renowned bonsai collection has returned! Featuring up to 50 specimens at a time from our 100-strong collection, our Bonsai Exhibition Garden is open for exploration from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. Come see the traditional roots of bonsai on full display with a contemporary Southern Appalachian twist.

If you'd like to learn more about our collection, check out the next session in our ongoing lecture series "Bonsai at The North Carolina Arboretum: More Than Meets the Eye" with Bonsai Curator Arthur Joura on Thursday, May 27.

Reminder: Plant Sale May 26 – 29

Don't forget! The Arboretum’s annual outdoor plant sale is back, and this year, it’s bigger and better than ever. On May 26 and 27, bring your mask and a wagon and get ready to shop a unique collection of annuals and perennials grown right here at your Arboretum. Then, on May 28 and 29, check out our tailgate-style market featuring local growers and businesses from across our community, all gathered in one place. We can't wait to see you there!

The Path Forward Continues

Thank you! It’s only been a few days since we re-launched our fundraising campaign, The Path Forward, and you are already helping bring the Arboretum to everyone. So far, 41 households have contributed $31,110, putting us at 31% of our $100,000 goal!

We are so grateful for this initial outpouring of support for your Arboretum as we look toward a bright future where we can continue to be a community resource for all. Please consider contributing to help us fulfill our ongoing mission of connecting people with plants.
