Introducing Meditative Mornings

We’ve heard your valuable feedback, and now you don't have to hear us! Beginning tomorrow, the hours between 8 and 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of every month will be reserved for "Meditative Mornings," a pause for quiet time in our gardens and on our trails. During this time, our working garden crew will abstain from using leaf blowers, mowers and other equipment so you can enjoy the sounds of nature all around. Plus, be on the lookout for upcoming Adult Education courses in wellness, natural history and more during these special morning hours.

Last Day for the 2021 City Nature Challenge

It's not too late to get outside and document the nature all around you as a part of the 2021 City Nature Challenge — and even earn awards in the process! Today, May 3, is the final day to capture photos of the wild plants and animals in your region and upload them to the FREE iNaturalist app. But never fear: The challenge continues with its "Identification" phase from May 4 – 9. Put on your naturalist cap and help scientists gather and sort through this treasure trove of data as a part of this worldwide bioblitz.

Plan Your Plant Shopping: May 26 - 29

Calling all garden lovers! The Arboretum’s annual outdoor plant sale is back, and this year, it’s bigger and better than ever. On May 26 and 27, bring your mask and a wagon and get ready to shop a unique collection of annuals and perennials grown right here at the Arboretum. All proceeds from this portion of the sale benefit The North Carolina Arboretum Society and support the Arboretum’s educational programs, facilities and exhibits year-round.

Then, on May 28 and 29, we partner with local growers and businesses for a tailgate-style market featuring an even greater selection of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, herbs, houseplants, cut flowers and natural products from across our community, all gathered in one place. See you there!

Please note: The Arboretum’s standard $16 parking fee applies for all non-members and can be applied towards the cost of a membership onsite. For the health and safety of all, shoppers should plan to wear a mask.

Explore the Expressions of Spring With Adult Ed

The Arboretum is alive with spring’s expressions, and our Adult Education Programs are here to share these experiences with you! With both onsite and online programs available, you can take in classes, workshops, and guided walks in wellness and contemplative arts, native flora and fauna, place-based gardening and local ecology. Spring is waiting for you! Walk through fragrant blooms in our National Native Azalea Collection, hear a warbler’s joyful song while birding on a high elevation trail, spy a salamander egg mass while exploring our new Willow Pond outdoor learning center or create a mindful mandala from natural elements.
