Public Health Milestone: 200th Coal Plant Retirement

On a sweltering summer day in 2011, I stood in front of a polluting coal-fired power plant on the Potomac River with Michael Bloomberg, Sierra Club executive director Michael Brune, and dozens of volunteers, staff, and supporters. We were there to announce a new partnership between Sierra Club and Bloomberg Philanthropies that aimed to move the US beyond coal, our most deadly and polluting source of energy.

Iowa Utility Will Phase Out Coal Plants, Marking Milestone for Sierra Club

An Iowa utility will phase out coal at five plants in the state under a settlement announced Wednesday by the Department of Justice and the Environmental Protection Agency.
