Following the release of Governor Inslee's proposed budget, which includes $3.9B in education funding, WSPTA advocates will hear from the Governor himself.
Ready to Rally? WSPTA advocates will be rallying on the capitol steps to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday by celebrating Education as a Civil Right, alongside many other Washington State advocacy groups.
Meet Your Legislators. The main reason for Focus Day is learning about Washington State PTA (WSPTA), our advocacy and legislative platform, and meeting with your legislators to talk about the importance of our Whole Child advocacy! General Membership Meeting
Tuesday, January 24th, 6p.m. at ERAC Boardroom

Join us for our General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, January 24th, 6:00 p.m. in the ERAC Boardroom at the Highline School District Headquarters, 15675 Ambaum Blvd. SW in Burien. Following our General Membership Meeting, we will be offering the Membership Bootcamp Training at 7:00 p.m. Please RSVP to Mindi at if you plan on attending the Membership Bootcamp Training. This training fulfills the training requirement by WA State PTA.

It is MANDATORY to send a representative from your PTSA board to this meeting. Usually this is defined in your standing rules as your President or other designated board member. Please plan on attending.

We must have 8 teams for a league this year!

This can be accomplished with 4 schools, but we would like involvement from many in the district. Each school may have two teams, one for 3rd/4th and a second for 5th/6th. Practices should begin in March, weekly games start in April and run into May, followed by a recognition event late May or early June.

What does a Softball Chair do?

Chairs will attend council meetings, be a contact for myself for sharing information (insurance, schedules, etc.), be a contact for coaches and families at their school, coordinate practice times, and plan a recognition event at the end of the season.

I will admit I am new to this position and program! I need help in defining this role from experienced individuals, if you have participated in the past please attend ready to share your knowledge. I imagine there is much more to be added to this list!

From Your President

Happy New Year! Many of us in Burien and SeaTac are digging out from under a few inches of snow, although I hear parts of Des Moines received barely a dusting on this New Year's Day.

While many PTSA's kick things off in the fall, winter is the perfect time to introduce a new program or kick off a membership campaign! If you've already had a membership campaign within your school, now is the time to expand to your community--did you know grandparents, community members, friends--ANYONE--can join your PTSA? This is the perfect time to set some goals for membership if you have not done so. Join us for our Membership Boot Camp Training on Tuesday the 24th at 7pm (and join us for our General Membership Meeting beforehand at 6!)

If you have concerns or questions, or are struggling, do not hesitate to reach out to us. That is what we are here for. We would be sad to find out a PTSA was struggling with membership or leadership and needed help at the end of the year--please reach out to us NOW so we can help your PTSA!

Mindi Welton-Mitchell
President, Highline Council PTSA 9.5
