Register for State Convention

The Washington State PTA Convention is at the Hilton Seattle Airport and Convention Center in SeaTac. It is within our district boundaries. Our goal is 100% participation from our local PTA's, which means we need one person from each PTA to register as a delegate or volunteer at the State Convention.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to have all of your required PTA training taken care of for the 2017-2018 year! PTA and the Law will be offered on Sunday. You can get all of your requirements out of the way before next year even begins!

Plus, the state convention is FUN! There are door prizes, an exhibit hall with free giveaways, and the opportunity to network and meet other PTA's, borrow their ideas, and learn from others. Don't miss out!

Register today!

General Membership Meeting
Monday, April 24th, 6p.m. at ERAC Boardroom

This will be our final General Membership meeting of the year. Come learn about what we have accomplished this past year, and ask your questions about State Convention and learn from others.

There are a number of PTA's that have not attended a single Council meeting this year. This is MANDATORY to attend. Please send one representative from your board to our Council General Membership meeting.

Legislative News

From the National PTA:
Parents and Advocates,

When your child takes a math test, they’re expected to show their work to get credit. Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), states are also required to engage stakeholders, like you, in developing their state plans. Unfortunately, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) just released a new guide that doesn’t compel states to show their work on their process of engaging educators and parents.

If students are expected to show their work on assignments, shouldn’t states be held to the same standard when making decisions about our children’s education?

Send a comment to the U.S. Department of Education today and tell them: Stakeholder Engagement is CRITICAL, not optional!

We’re counting on you to hold states accountable and ensure parents, teachers and other stakeholders who are standing up for our children are being heard! The U.S. Department of Education needs to hear from you—and PTA members across the country—TODAY.

Submit your comment today and demand that a description of stakeholder engagement be included in the state education plans.

Thank you for your support,
National PTA Advocacy Team

From Your President

I first want to thank Kitty Richmire for running the last General Membership Meeting in March while I was away. Kitty has stepped up time and again and has been a wonderful addition to our board this year as Vice-President.

At the last meeting, the following officers were elected for the 2017-2018 year:

Scott Ryan, President
Maria Santiago, Vice-President
Kitty Richmire, Treasurer
Aimee Lloyd, Secretary

A huge thank you to our Nominating Committee for a job well done, and welcome aboard Aimee, our newest member of the Council Executive Committee for next year!

As I shared in a previous email, I will be moving out of the district at the end of the year. It has been a privilege to serve you as your President.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us on the board if you have questions. I will still be President through June 30th, 2017, and will continue to fulfill my duties, and am glad to help in any way I can.

Mindi Welton-Mitchell
President, Highline Council PTSA 9.5
