PROJECTION OF CABBAGE, POTATOES AND OTHER DEMONS

On 31 July Mercato Comunale hosted the projection of Cabbage, potatoes and other demons documentary, event presented by Decât o revistă (DoR, Just a magazine) magazine.

On this ocassion, DoR announced the launch of a new column La noi (At us), an editorial project dedicated to rural areas, agriculture and rural development, but most of all to the Romanian village.
The documentary, directed by Șerban Georgescu, can be considered an analysis regarding the problems faced by the farmers (especially by small farmers/ semi-subsistence farmers), of agriculture before and after 1989, as well as following the joining of the European Union.

Furthermore, the focus of the documentary is on the agricultural case of  Lungulețu, but the aspects and problems presented can be considered representatives also at national level.

Also, the movie analyses objectively the grassroot problems, such as producers' lack of adapting to the market, risks of agriculture by ear, lack of association between farmers/producers.

Particularly, the movie presents the connection between agriculture, production and socio-economical impact on farmers and rural residents, time and resources invested in agricultural activities and the perception of agriculture as bad business, with delayed results.

From a critic yet constructive point, the documentary explains the low presence of Romanian products on market, the importance of
supporting local farmers and the need to rewarding their work.

Agriculture, as social (and economical) activity is part of the national DNA and must be understood and appreciated accordingly.

The director declared that the documentary wants to be also a lesson adapted to the current times about agriculture and rural, told to the youth.
