Set Good Examples
“Pouring love on hate is like pouring water on fire. Make a resolve: ‘I will live the kind of life that will make everybody love me, and I will love them.’ Everything on this earth has a purpose and that purpose is to serve; to be useful; to bring some benefit, at least to somebody. Set good examples; let others learn from your own life.

“God bless you. Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti.  Sri Swami Satchidananda

Q & A with Swami Satchidananda: Creative Visualization

Question: We hear so much these days about creative visualization and manifesting with the mind. Isn’t this the opposite of being present and in the moment?
Answer: I don’t think they oppose each other. If you like, you can be in the present moment without creating any thoughts in the mind or any visions in the mind. But, you can also have visualization. It depends on what you want to achieve....Visualization has its own purpose. If you don’t need that you can just leave the mind in a sort of quiet state, but there is even difficulty with that. You can never make the mind completely quiet because the thought will still be there, “I am making my mind quiet.” If you say “I’m not going to think of anything,” then what are you thinking? You’re thinking of not thinking of anything. Unfortunately, that is the way the mind functions. The mind cannot survive without a thought. A thoughtless mind is no mind at all.

It is available on DVD and we've serialized it as a 6-part series, in response to our readers' interest. We continue with part 3. Enjoy this unique documentary!

Up until February of 2017, I had been pulling money from my personal funds to drive long distances to teach Yoga in prisons. And while I loved the work, it was beginning to have a slight negative impact on my finances. I also wanted to do more, and doing more often requires funding. Putting all fear and insecurity aside, I took a leap of faith, part of my personal income tax refund, and applied for nonprofit status. Two weeks later, I received notification that Karuna Prison Yoga was a recognized 501(c)3 by the IRS. And then, I panicked. I had no idea what I was doing. But after I stepped back, practiced some ujjayi breathing, followed by a long weekend at the Sivananda Bahamas Ashram, I embraced my newfound challenge and role with fervor.  MORE

A Journey Into Yoga: Destiny of Divine Grace
An Interview with Nalanie Chellaram

There are some Yoga teachers (like Tao Porchon-Lynch in the article above) who are so inspired, so motivated, and so dedicated that their lives warrant some study and reflection. That’s just one of the reasons that we sat down with Nalanie Chellaram, a powerhouse of selfless service, Yoga wisdom, and joy. An Integral Yoga teacher in Gibraltar, Nalanie truly puts the teachings of Yoga into action in her work with others. The story of Nalanie’s life, a “destiny plotted out by the divine grace,” as she calls it, is moving and uplifting. Nalanie had the rare opportunity to grow up in the presence of a Yoga master, her beloved Guru Swami Satchidananda. Guided by him in the teachings of Yoga, Nalanie’s life changed forever. Read this inspiring interview here and also watch Nalanie talk about her upcoming program in Yogaville, which is a benefit for the LOTUS.

Yoga Alliance is undertaking a thorough and inclusive review of Yoga teacher training standards in an effort to serve the education, practice, profession, and community better. Yoga teaching standards are only as strong as the wisdom they reflect so they need your voice. This survey is designed to gather your ideas regarding what’s next for Yoga teacher standards and is the first major step in a more comprehensive standards review process.
