Hey <<First Name>>,
It's candle season and candy season.
I mean, it's the best season. From October to the end of February it's pumpkin, then pine, and then cinnamon candles and reese's peanut butter cups, then candy canes, and then heart-shaped chocolates. Then, you have a five minute break to open your windows for the first time of the year and stock up on mini-eggs. ARE YOU READY?
Over the past few weeks, it's gone from shorts weather to sweater weather to hats, mittens, and scarf weather and it feels like a lot of change happening at once. Why is it that spring drags out for all of eternity and fall is like 2 seconds long?
I tend to hermit inside during the cold weather, but I'm making an early effort to get out more by walking to work now that it's too cold to bike. I leave the house around 7:10 so I can be at the office by 8 and it takes about 45 minutes. Yesterday, I walked to work and back because I forgot my wallet and couldn't take the bus home as I planned. I ended up walking 8 km in total, which is some nice accidental exercise that put a dent in my podcast queue.
Last night my comics class was a three-hour figure drawing session and it was so much fun. It took me a long time to warm-up (it's been 11 years since my figure drawing classes at NSCAD), but I eventually found my stride. It's kind of surreal taking this class because it's in the same building as my first-year university class. I'm pretty sure the same studio we drew in last night was the studio my first drawing class was in. So much has changed in 11 years, but so little at the same time. I kept thinking about how much better I would be at drawing if I kept up a regular practice!

☀️How to become a morning person. Coffee + light + something to do is a pretty easy formula!
💸I am endlessly fascinated by this "smart mirror" for your home workouts. Its level of extravagance is up there with that dumb juicer everyone was going bonkers for last year. But I'm so INTRIGUED.
👙Related: demystifying exercising in just a sports bra. Ok, but where do you get sports bras that don't look so sports-bra-y?
🔊Conserve the sound is dedicated to archiving the sounds made by obsolete devices. I haven't thought about the Polaroid Joycam in years and now so many grade 7 memories are flooding back.

💪This profile on the ballet dancer, Misty Copeland is fantastic. What a truly inspiring woman.
🖋I stumbled across this weird little stationery store recently and it's so full of nostalgia and wonder. Here's the thing: I know my pre-school had these colour bingo cards. They look so familiar to me. That pre-school also had a big Helvetica calendar, similar to a Stendig, with moveable tiles and dang, I would love to own that.
📓Fondfolio is such a lovely gift idea. It's like a less scrappy scrapbook.
🏆 An interview with Donna Strickland, Nobel Prize winner for physics. Loved her quote about getting a phone call from Justin Trudeau:
He was asking something about how my life has changed and I said, well, obviously you have days like this every day but it's very weird for me. And he goes, "No, I don't talk to Nobel laureates every day."
🤔 Inside the most exclusive... leggings company? You actually have to apply to buy them! I'm all about customer research, but this goes BEYOND.
👍 I had a forgetful week. On Monday, I forgot my pass to get into my office building. On Tuesday I forgot it in my coat at lunch and locked myself out until someone let me back in to get it. On Thursday, I forgot my wallet at home. This is a bit out of character for me, so I appreciate Emily's post on how to remember everything to help me reset some habits.
Recommended Listening & Watching:
I started on season 3 of Serial and I am really enjoying it so far. This season focuses on the day-to-day happenings in the justice system and it is SO educational. Since I started working for the provincial government last year, I've learned a lot about how the justice system works in my province, and how it sometimes doesn't work. While this season of Serial is about one courthouse in middle America, there are so many parallels to what's happening where I live. Also, if you ever have an opportunity to sit in a public gallery while court is in session, I encourage you to go! It's an eye-opening experience.
I also started listening to Last Seen from WBUR and the Boston Globe about one of the largest art heists in modern history. As an art history nerd, I am totally captured by this podcast. There are times where I feel a physical reaction that's not nausea, not grossed out, but like, deeply disturbed. I don't know, it's just an incredible story.
