Hi there
February is traditionally our hottest month and if it is too hot to cook… don't. I call
it cooking without cooking and my motto this time of the year is “Dinner is a meal
best served at room temperature”. So, this year we are celebrating Valentine's Day
with a delicious, filling portable salad to be enjoyed outdoors in the shade.

Tomato Toast
Our tasters loved these toasties. Choose very ripe tomatoes and do take the trouble to
skin them. Season well with Garlic & Herb Seasoning.
|
Chicken & Char-grilled
Pepper Salad
Classy and cool. We used a shop bought
rotisserie chicken and plated this colourful
salad on a non-breakable plastic platter.
|
Watermelon with
Feta & Olives
Try this novel way of cutting half a
watermelon up into manageble portions,
easy to eat out of hand.

|
Speculaas
Flavoured
Choc Chip
Cookies
On a recent trip to Holland I became
hooked on the delicious flavour of these
biscuits. Do try them, they are superb with
a cup of coffee. Use the generous amounts
of spices as stipulated in our recipe to
ensure the authentic flavour.

|
WATERMELON
Should feel heavy for its size. Give it a thump
- you want a hollow sound, not a dull thud.
|
TOMATOES
Pick one up and weigh it in your hand, ripe
ones are heavier than they look and aromatic.

Ina's Choice this Month, Pork Chops with Plums
The success and succulence of this dish depends on the thickness of the chops. Ask the
butcher to cut 2 cm thick chops from a whole pork loin.
|
Weeknite Winner,
Char-grilled Shallots Quiche
The Char-grilled Shallots give a lovely
flavour to these quiches. It reheats
beautifully the next day and in fact the
flavour is even better. Do not freeze.
|
Junior Chef,
Blondies
Our Brownies are one of our most popular
Bake Mixes. Do try these American style
Blondies with white chocolate and nuts
using our Vanilla Cake Mix, as a variation.

Know your Onions
We made a careful assessment of the different onion varieties before we decided to use
shallots for our Char-grilled onions.
Here is the result of our tasting for your interest.

LAST WORD
On a serious note, a thought for the beginning of a new year:
“The past cannot be changed, forgotten, edited or erased.
It can only be accepted” - Unknown
