Time To Celebrate

Hi there

I had one of those landmark birthdays in October and the family decided we needed to celebrate in style!

In order to make it a function that allowed me to sit back and enjoy the evening, we called in the help of professionals. Flower Walker, Cape Town's top events planner, masterminded the concept of a glass conservatory in the garden with hundreds of candles, magnificent hanging basket flower arrangements, beautifully set tables, etc.

The catering for the three course dinner was handled by another professional, Annalize Buchanan and her team. Annalize used my recipes and interpreted them with style and finesse. Sometime next year we will use the complete menu with detailed recipes for one of our monthly newsletters. The magnificent multi-layered birthday cake by Let Them Eat Cake consisted of layers of Carrot Cake, Chocolate Cake and Vanilla Cake with cream cheese icing, fruit and flowers.

New Product Launch to commemorate my 40 years in the business

A first in South Africa! Glammed up char-grilled vegetables preserved in delicious olive oil vinaigrettes. Serve char-grilled portobellini mushrooms, red and yellow bell peppers, baby beetroot and sweet and mild shallots as antipasti before a meal, as part of a tapas spread or with your next braai.

Baby red beets, harvested young, are slowly char-roasted in a traditional woodfired oven to develop their natural sweetness through caramelisation and to give that authentic char-grilled flavour.

MENU OF THE MONTH

In keeping with the party theme, we prepared a cocktail menu of snacks for those occasions where you need to entertain a group of people with mostly standing room.

It is an idea to hire a few small, tall, round cocktail tables to put drinks and eats on and, if the weather is good, to enjoy outside.

Most of the dishes can be fully or partly prepared to be finished off before serving.
