Welcome to our look back at the third quarter and the look ahead to the fourth. Speculation spiked since our last issue, and as is often the case, much of it was overblown and some of it just never happened. The entire AWA crew wishes you and your loved ones the most wonderful of Thanksgivings.
PERSPECTIVES: THE "WHAT" AND THE "NOW, WHAT"
The "What": The third quarter was turbulent for many of the markets in which we invest. Much of these drastic drops has already reversed course between the time the quarter ended and the time this newsletter was assembled.

"Now, What": Markets go up and down, and that's hardly news. The market correction we experienced last quarter saw the S&P 500 drop 12.35 percent from the record peak recorded on May 21st. For perspective, the chart below shows that U.S. stocks typically have delivered above-average returns on such an event. Accepting price fluctuations as a natural characteristic of markets is a key tenet of stock investing.
