WCPA Statement on Political Murder 17 July 2018
The World Constitution and Parliament Association (WCPA), representing the Constitution for the Federation of Earth, profoundly condemns those governments around the world that condone, ignore, or engage in political murders within their jurisdictions.
A central principle of human civilization is the right and the dignity of each individual to nonviolently express his or her views and to participate in the political process. All nine of the United Nations Human Rights Conventions recognize this principle, and it is foundational to the Earth Constitution, which actualizes a universal republic based on human rights and dignity. The very idea of effective government under the rule of just laws is destroyed by the practice of political murder.
Every government, if it is to remain legitimate, must strenuously oppose the practice of political murder. In particular, the government of Columbia, under its new President, Ivan Duque, is failing to actively suppress this terrible practice in that country. We urge the government of Columbia, and every other government where political murders take place on a regular basis, to take the necessary steps to stop this practice, which strikes at the very heart of civilized living under the rule of law.
The Constitution for the Federation of Earth provides both the model and the goal for a civilized global political order in which dialogue, debate, and due process of law take the place of violence, intimidation, lawlessness, and murder. The legitimacy of governments is measured by the degree to which they respect and actualize these principles.
