Dear DC Touchdown Club members and supporters,
While it is only the halfway point of the 2015 football season, we already are working towards the 2016 DC Touchdown Club Awards Dinner. This spring event is one of my favorite gatherings of the year, as we bring together people from all corners of our local football community.
We have some pretty exciting things in the works, but I can’t share the details quite yet. Let’s just say our honoree for the Lifetime Achievement Award is a coaching and broadcasting legend, who began his post-college career in the region and his impact on the game continues today. Any guesses?
Enjoy the games this weekend. We hope to share more exciting news regarding the Awards Dinner with you soon.

Yours in football,

Steve Beck

Linganore wide receiver and defensive back Wade Stieren was all over the field this past Friday. He made 15 tackles and intercepted a pass on defense and on offense caught the game-winning two-point conversion as the Lancers edged Oakdale, 21-20, in a meeting of previously unbeaten teams.
1994 Local College Player of the Year
After a solid career on the gridiron, Pyne now lives in Tampa and is enjoying success in the corporate world, where he is Executive Vice President of Wheels Up. His role is to grow sales in the southeast for the private aviation company. In his free time, Pyne loves spending time with his kids.
Pyne made the move to Wheels Up after being contacted by an old friend, Kenny Dichter, the company’s CEO and co-founder.

“Kenny and I always had stayed in touch," Pyne said,  "And when he presented me with the opportunity to come to Wheels Up I made the move.”

Wheels Up is a subscription service that allows clients to have their own private plane without the burden of staffing and maintenance.
Previously, Pyne worked for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the team’s Chief Partnership Officer. He also worked at IMG as Director of Corporate Partnerships for the SEC, and later as Vice President of Sales.
Pyne was a star center at Virginia Tech from 1990 to 1993, and was inducted into the Hokies' Athletic Hall of Fame in 2004.

Pyne's eight-year NFL career was a milestone not only for him, but for his entire family. The Pynes are one of three families to have three generations play professional football. Pyne's grandfather, George Pynee II, played for the Providence Steam Roller of the NFL and his father, George Pyne III, played for the Boston Patriots of the American Football League.

H.D. Woodson (2-3) at Wilson (4-1), Friday, 6: First place in the DCIAA Stars Division is on the line and both teams should be well rested after last Friday’s thunderstorms prompted the DCIAA to cancel that night’s games.

Northwest (4-2) at Quince Orchard (5-1), Friday, 6:30: The host Cougars have averaged 49.6 points during their five-game winning streak, but none of the victories were over teams comparable to the Maryland 4A two-time defending champions.

Woodgrove (5-1) at Heritage (6-0), Friday, 7: The undefeated Pride has been putting up big numbers, scoring more than 40 points in every game but one. But Heritage will be tested this week; Woodgrove has allowed more than two touchdowns in regulations just once this season.

Gonzaga (6-0) vs. DeMatha (6-0) at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Center, Friday, 7 – First-place in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference is on the line in this game that will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.

Purdue Linebacker
Ja’Whaun Bentley
Best wishes to 2014 Maryland High School Player of the Year Ja’Whaun Bentley. The sophomore linebacker and co-captain was Purdue’s leading tackler this season but will miss the remainder of the year after tearing knee ligaments last week in practice. Bentley had 49 tackles and 7 ½ tackles for loss in the Boilermakers’ first five games.
