Port Melbourne Colts Junior Football Club Newsletter
Message from our President:
Another big weekend of footy and pleased to report that I received some great feedback from around the grounds re the way our players and officials conduct themselves on and off the field when visiting other clubs.
On Sunday we welcomed Les Stewart to our 'Game Day' team who will coordinate volunteers assisting with ground set up and pack up on match day. Les has been involved with the Port Colts Seniors for decades and is an experienced trainer. He will ensure we maintain our close ties with our senior club and will be a fabulous resource for our club. Look out for him early Sunday morning and let him know you are available to lend a hand.
As we settle into our teams and 'footy' routine it is an important time to be reminded of our club policies and procedures that cover all aspects of running a family friendly and successful football club. It is very important that parents, players and all volunteers and officials know how our club handles situations so that we can be sure we have the safety and best interests of our members covered.
Please click on the following links and familiarise yourself with these important club policies:
Above all please make sure you respect all of our coaches and team volunteers who spend many hours ensuring our kids can participate in our great game and develop their footy skills. We are all volunteers and are all doing our best. If you have any concerns or wish to provide feedback please do so in a respectful way.
We are ramping up our Family Dinner Nights this week and are introducing Wednesday night raffles and regular guest speakers so you can get to know the people who help make your club such a great place to be a member. Please stick around after training with your family and support these team get togethers.
Finally our U14, U16 and U18 girls teams are in for a treat on Thursday night with players from St Kilda Football Club coming along to assist coaches with training drills.
Looking forward to another great week as we prepare for Round 4.

SMJFL Modified Rules Social Media Guidelines While it is common knowledge that there is no scoreboards, and published ladders for U8-9-10 Modified Rules competitions (except Under 12 Girls). These practices which aim to remove a focus on results are important even away from the field including SOCIAL MEDIA and online match reports.
SMJFL have noted a number of posts/photos of Modified Rules teams (which is great), but the caption has read along the lines of "Great Win by the Under 9s". This is inappropriate and defeats the purpose of adjusting the focus to effort, fun and skill improvements.
A simple change to "Great game by the Under 9s, showing a great effort in Round 2". a reminder to everyone posting and sharing photos and match reports to keep the language positive, and do not focus on results.
Weeks of losing may be inconsequential to children who feel they are still improving their skills, having fun and/or spending time with their mates, provided the win/loss situation is not overemphasised by the adults around them. This includes coaches.
