Also #WearItPurpleDay & Partnership Opportunity

Dear Friends,

In this newsletter, we will cover:

  • Thank you from our I CAN School and I CAN Online Programs.
  • Invitation to our scale up of I CAN Online in partnership with Points4Purpose.
  • Celebration of #WearItPurpleDay2021 and new resources to support Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people.
Here are some updates:

We are working hard to support our young people during this challenging time. We are very grateful to our I CAN School program partners for their trust and support as we continue to adjust our content and delivery for back and forth lockdowns. We are thrilled to share with our school partners that we are now partnering with 67 Victorian government schools and delivering 19 Queensland State school programs.

Expressions of interest in our six week Online Program can be made here. Please contact if you have questions about our Online program.

I CAN Network Ltd is partnering with Business Builders Group and Points4Purpose to scale up our National Online Mentoring Program so it can reach up to 2,500 young people nationally per year by the end of 2023.

We invite our partners and the business community to a panel discussion on the scale up of Online Mentoring hosted by BBG, BSI and Points4Purpose on Tuesday 2 September at 8.00AM.

As an Autistic-led organisation dedicated to supporting, validating and empowering Autistic young people, we have the privilege of working with a significant number who also identify as LGBTIQA+. All too often, they struggle to find acceptance and understanding of their Autistic & LGBTIQA+ identities.

Our upcoming cycle of online mentoring (starting week of 13 September) will once again include groups for Autistic LGBTIQA+ teens. We recognise how important it is for young people to have a safe space to connect with peers and mentors who can relate to their experiences. [Insert button that links to online mentoring]

Earlier this year, I CAN Network was chosen as one of 12 outstanding organisations across Victoria to receive a HEY (Healthy Equal Youth) Grant to lead innovative, COVID-safe projects that support the wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ young people.

Our project, led by Autistic LGBTIQA+ members on our team, is focused on creating a suite of resources that validate and empower Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people and help the adults and service providers in their lives provide more meaningful support. The voices of 70 young collaborators across Australia are strongly reflected in the materials below.

We are very proud to share tip sheets and recommended resources for:

  1. Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people

  2. For grown ups supporting Autistic LGBTIQA+ youth

  3. For service providers supporting LGBTIQA+ Autistic young people

You can download each of the respective tip sheet sets here (screen reader-accessible versions are available on our website):

We have released these tip sheets on our Facebook and  Instagram pages in celebration of Wear It Purple Day on 27 August. We would appreciate your help in making sure that these resources reach anyone who might benefit from them.

Thank you for helping us create a world that is more informed, more understanding and more accepting of our young people. Together, we are making a difference!

Take care and best wishes,

Chris, on behalf of the I CAN Team
