November 2018
Thank you!
Participants gather for a group picture after our Spring 2018 work day.As we start to look back over 2018, it’s clear that it is you, our donors, volunteers, and sponsors who make our farm possible. Thank you for your support! Without you, we could not have accomplished all we did.

Here are just a few 2018 highlights:

  • We accepted the farm’s first paid intern under the new California Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) Blueprint.
  • We opened our Saturday farm stand selling our first production season’s eggs, fruits, vegetables, and mixed flower bouquets.
  • We began hydroponic lettuce and basil production in the greenhouse.
  • We held our first public open house, FARM FEST, a successful event attended by over 400 people!
Our annual report is coming soon with all our 2018 accomplishments. Please watch for it!

$10,000 matching gift to #RaisetheBarn
Now we turn to planning for next year and ask you to continue supporting Costanoa Commons Farm by making a gift.

We hope that you can help the Farm continue our mission to provide farm skills training, internships, environmental and gardening education, and micro-enterprise opportunities for people with and without disabilities.

This season, we have a matching donation of $10,000 from a very generous Friend of Costanoa Commons Farm! Your end-of-the-year gifts of support will be doubled, so that we can build a barn and accomplish our 2019 goals:

  • Increase our farm’s production by doubling our strawberry and raspberry plants, adding over 100 new dahlias, and increasing our flower production.
  • Start a mobile farm stand, in partnership with Team Sweaty Sheep to bring our farm’s produce to churches, schools, and community events.
  • Start a community supported agriculture service, with two pick-up locations where customers can subscribe to a weekly produce box with optional add-ons of eggs and honey.
  • Establish regular production of lettuces, microgreens, and herbs in our greenhouse using water-wise hydroponic and aquaponic growing techniques.
  • Design and build a farm compost system to manage waste on the farm in an ecologically appropriate way.
  • Build an outdoor teaching area as part of our Seed to Salad program to offer horticulture experiences to students and people with disabilities who visit the farm.
  • Build a barn where we can handle farm products post-harvest, with space for washing and packing food crops, storage of food and flowers, value-added production space, and room for farm implement storage and repair.
