The next meeting of the Ancient Coin Club of Los Angeles will take place Sunday December 13, 2015 in the Community Room at the Sherman Oaks Galleria starting at 1:00 PM. The Sherman Oaks Galleria is located northwest of the intersection of the Ventura and San Diego Freeways at 15301 Ventura Blvd. (at Sepulveda Blvd.), in Sherman Oaks. Park in the Galleria parking lot (we validate your parking). The Community Room is located on Level 1 of the rotunda, one floor below the cinema.

This meeting is our Annual Meeting and will include elections for Club Officers and Directors. It will feature a not-to-be-missed presentation by Randy Butler on “I, Claudius in Coins. Part III”.

LAST MEETING

ACCLA's November meeting convened at 1:00 PM in the Sherman Oaks Galleria Community Room. The meeting began with a discussion of the magnificent exhibit: Power and Pathos: Bronze Sculpture of the Hellenistic World that we visited on our October Field Trip to the Getty Center, and then turned to club business. We need a volunteer to come to the meetings early to check in with the Galleria security office and to pick up the parking validations. Merrill Gibson reviewed options and ideas for the ACCLA 50th anniversary meeting to be held at the ANS meeting in summer 2016. The expectation is that it may draw in some new members as well as promote an interest in ancient coins. Mike Connor reported we now have 816 subscribers on facebook. Randy Butler talked about his recent trip to Germany and Gaul where he visited key Roman battle sites. Vice-President Roger Burry reviewed upcoming meeting programs.

President Ken Friedman opened nominations for the 2016 Officer and Board positions. The current Officers all agreed to serve an additional term so we have at least one candidate for each Officer position. Nominations will stay open until the elections are held at the next meeting. The President also called for a Board Meeting. This will be held in the Galleria Community Room 45 minutes before the December meeting starts.

Following a short break we held a lively auction of coins and books. The next auction will be held at the January meeting.

The program Ancient Imitations and Evocations was given by Ken Friedman. He gave a fascinating review of an eclectic group of imitative coins each paired with its corresponding "official" emission.
