The next meeting of the Ancient Coin Club of Los Angeles will take place Sunday March 12, 2017 in the Community Room at the Sherman Oaks Galleria starting at 1:00 PM. The Sherman Oaks Galleria is located at 15301 Ventura Boulevard at the junction with Sepulveda Boulevard just northwest of the intersection of the Ventura and San Diego Freeways in Sherman Oaks. Park in the Galleria parking lot (we validate your parking, so parking is free). The Community Room is on Level 1 of the rotunda, one floor below the cinema.
The March 12, 2017 meeting will feature a presentation by Professor Robert Cleve who will be talking on The Ancient Roman Port of Ostia.
ACCLA's February meeting was brought to order by President Betty Eiseman at 1:30 PM. Treasurer Barry Rightman gave the Treasurer's report. Secretary Michael Connor reported that the Annual Returns had been filed, announced we now have 1,300 followers on facebook, and reminded folks to click through the special links on the ACCLA website when shopping on Amazon so ACCLA benefits from the commission. Vice-President Roger Burry reviewed upcoming meeting programs.
Phil Iverson, Numismatic Association of Southern California Director of Education, was a guest at the meeting. Phil invited all ACCLA members to attend the April 8th CSNA Educational Symposium in Costa Mesa which features an Introduction to Ancient Greek Numismatics presented by our own Ken Friedman.
Merrill Gibson reviewed ACCLA tabling arrangements at the February Long Beach Show. Roy Iwata volunteered to man the table for the three days of the show.
Roger Burry gave the featured meeting presentation entitled Roman Britain: History, Sites, and Coins. Roger provided a well-researched and entertaining multimedia presentation that covered the history of the Roman occupation with an emphasis on archaeological sites he had visited. Thank you Roger for another fascinating and illuminating talk.
