UFRJ SCIENCE PARK PARTICIPATES IN THE 26TH ANPROTEC CONFERENCE

The UFRJ Science Park participated in the 26th Conference of the Brazilian Association of Science Parks and Business Incubators – Anprotec (Associação Nacional de Entidades Promotoras de Empreendimentos Inovadores), one of the country’s largest events of entrepreneurship and innovation. The conference happened from October 17 to 20, in Fortaleza, and brought together representatives from science parks, business incubators, accelerators, corporate ventures and co-working places.

During the closing ceremony, the UFRJ Science Park presented a video inviting the audience to participate in the next edition of the event, to happen in Rio de Janeiro, in 2017. The film showed different organizations of the entrepreneurship movement, and also presented some of the technologies that have been developed in the city in the last few years.

The UFRJ Science Park is one of the proposers of the application submitted by the Network of Incubators, Technological Centers and Science Parks of Rio de Janeiro – REINC (Rede de Incubadoras, Polos e Parques Tecnológicos do Rio de Janeiro), which is also supported by Rio de Janeiro’s City Government, and by FAPERJ (Research Support Foundation of Rio de Janeiro). The event will take place at SulAmérica Convention Center, located downtown Rio, in 2017.

RESIDENT COMPANIES AT THE PARK AND INCUBATOR PARTICIPATE IN RIO OIL &GAS

With research centers located in the UFRJ Science Park, the companies Tenaris, Halliburton, Siemens, Shell, and FMC Technologies participated in the Rio Oil & Gas 2016, which happened from October 24 to 27. During the conference, the companies presented the new technologies that are being developed for the oil and gas market. With the support of DELL EMC², also located in the Park, four resident startups and one graduate of COPPE/UFRJ Business Incubator participated in the event as well. The companies Ativatec, GT2 Energia, Petrec, Twist and OilFinder presented their technologies and products at the Innovation Arena booth. On October 25, easySubsea, another resident company, lectured on wireless monitoring of subsea structures. On October 26, Petrec talked about RockLab Digital and OilFinder, an Incubator graduate, focused on remote technologies and tools for reducing the cost of oil exploration.

UFRJ SCIENCE PARK IS GOING TO RECEIVE FUNDING FROM FAPERJ

On October 19, during Anprotec’s conference, the Research Support Foundation of Rio de Janeiro (Faperj) signed the Program for Supporting Rio de Janeiro’s System of Science Parks (Flutec). Flutec is going to finance the physical and administrative structure of the Science Parks located in Rio de Janeiro and it will invest 20 million reais in projects. The program aims at promoting industrial competitiveness, a culture of innovation and wealth creation, by financing services such as individual and shared laboratories for scientific research, technological development and support of business growth. "The program addresses the project of humanizing the UFRJ Science Park, the actions that focus on facilitating the interaction between the people that work in the Park, and the cultural activities that can connect all areas of the University", says José Carlos Pinto, CEO of the UFRJ Science Park.

■ Fair - The UFRJ Science Park is now in the circuit of the UFRJ Agroecological Fair. The event takes place every Thursday from 9:30 until 15:30 in the Park and it offers several organic foods as well as handicraft works.
■ Startup - Biotecam, a resident company of Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator, was this month’s chosen interviewee by INOVA Parque UFRJ, the Science Park’s channel on YouTube. Click here to watch.
■ Conference - UFRJ Science Park’s CEO, José Carlos Pinto, participated in the opening ceremony of the XVI Yearly Symposium of Chemical Engineering (Coppe/UFRJ), which took place on October 26 in Coppe’s auditorium in the Center for Technology. The event focused on the topic “Entrepreneurial University and the Importance of Entrepreneurship”.
■ Supercomputer - On October 11, the UFRJ Science Park gave a presentation about the Coppe/UFRJ Lobo Carneiro supercomputer, which is the most potent computer in a Brazilian federal university. During the speech, Álvaro Coutinho, researcher at the Advanced Nucleus of High Performance Computing (NOCAD), talked about the new infrastructure and data processing that the University is currently offering the resident companies.
