SCIENCE PARK OPENS SPACE FOR COWORKING
The UFRJ Science Park has a new space for innovative and creative enterprises which present a high level of potential to interact with both UFRJ and the Park’s companies. Henceforth, whoever is interested in sharing the working space and, above all, in being part of an innovation and entrepreneurship environment can apply to the call for tender available at www.parque.ufrj.br. There will be a working area of around 313,5m² divided in 20 compartments, each of them containing two workplaces for private use, as well as a meeting room and socializing spaces. The originality of this initiative is the possibility to increase networking and business by interacting with large, small and medium-sized companies already located in the Park, as well as receiving support on business management.

GE DEVELOPS TECHNOLOGY TO IMPROVE ATHLETES’ PERFORMANCE DURING THE OLYMPIC GAMES
Located on Bom Jesus Island, innovation environment of UFRJ Science Park, GE Brazil-based Global Research Center developed a pioneering technology which will improve the performance of Brazilian canoeing athletes. In addition to sponsoring the Brazilian Canoeing Federation, GE developed an application to collect and assess real-time data during the training. The aim is to identify, based on all the collected information, ways to improve both the technique and performance of each athlete while preparing for the 2016 Olympics.Read more

SCIENCE PARK PROMOTES A SERIES OF CONFERENCES ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
During the months of March and April, the UFRJ Science Park is hosting a series of conferences about Intellectual Property on the theme: “Leveraging a company’s competitiveness by means of industrial property”. The series of conferences results from a partnership established between the Park and the Núcleo PenSZar from the specialized office on intellectual property called Kasznar Leonardos - Intellectual Property. Conference attendance is free; on March 1, March 15, March 29, April 12; from 2 pm to 4 pm; at the auditorium of Science Park located on Bom Jesus Island.

AQUAFLUXUS, SEAHORSE AND VIKATECH GRADUATE FROM THE INCUBATOR
On February 8, the companies Aquafluxus, Seahorse and Vikatech graduated from the Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator. Aquafluxus, a company that will make part of the Post-Incubation Program of the Science Park, develops studies and projects on flooding control as well as on high precision, low risk and sustainable draining systems. Acting in the energy field, SeaHorse works with technology that uses sea waves and river currents as primary sources for the generation of energy and water desalinization. Vikatech developed Vikaflex, a ceramic type of panel that is very resistant, waterproof and insulating.

■ New manager - Lucimar Dantas, manager of the Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator, took over as Articulations Manager of UFRJ Science Park in February. She has a Master Degree in Production Engineering and an Executive MBA from Instituto Coppead de Administração/UFRJ (Coppead Management Institute/UFRJ). Lucimar will hold both positions for an indefinite period of time.
■ Visits - More than 70 people visited the UFRJ Science Park in February, as part of the Parque de Portas Abertas program (Park with Open Doors). Among them were Executive MBA students from the University of Florida, UFRJ students and other universities interested in the innovations developed in this environment.
■ Pre-incubation - On March 8, the Momento Pitch will take place, which is a closing event of the My Future Business program resulting from a partnership between IEL (National Confederation of Industry), Coppe and UFRJ Economy Institute. The program aims at enabling university students to develop innovative and sustainable projects. On that day, students will present their projects to investors and the three best will win a pre-incubation in Coppe’s Business Incubator.
