GE, AMBEV AND L’OREAL, COMPANIES FROM THE PARK, ARE AMONG THE 100 MOST INNOVATING IN THE COUNTRY

With research centers installed within the innovative environment of the UFRJ Science Park, GE, L’Oréal and Ambev are among the 100 most innovating companies in the country, according to the annual directory “Valor Inovação Brasil”. Annually promoted by Valor Econômico newspaper, the ranking is carried out in a partnership with Strategy&, the consulting firm for PwC. The Inovação Brasil ranking has among its major criteria the revenue percentage targeted at innovation, development of new products, processes and structures, the number of successful launchings, maturity level of the innovation processes and the implementation of cultures oriented to the area.

SCIENCE PARK HOUSES SUPERCOMPUTER WHICH WAS UNVEILED ON JULY 13

The supercomputer Lobo Carneiro, from the Advanced Center of High Performance Computer Science (Núcleo Avançado de Computação de Alto Desempenho - Nacad) started to operate on July 13, at UFRJ Science Park. Located in the Laboratory of Computational Methods (Laboratório de Métodos Computacionais - Lamce) from Coppe/UFRJ, the equipment, one of the most powerful in the country, will play an important role in different research areas, such as engineering, oil prospecting, biotechnology and studies on climate changes. The supercomputer can be used by researchers from the University as well as from the R&D centers of the companies located in the Park.

COMPANIES LOCATED IN THE SCIENCE PARK CAN PARTICIPATE IN REDE RIO

On July 11, the UFRJ Science Park and Faperj (Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro) signed a partnership, in which the companies located in the Science Park can be part of the Rede Rio of Computers. Launched in 1992, the Rede Rio of Computers is one of the main instruments for scientific development of the State of Rio de Janeiro. It connects university R&D centers, education institutions, research, science and technology. The tool allows for the development of specific projects that need infrastructure in high-speed, safe network.

SIEMENS/CHEMTECH AND TWO GRADUATES FROM THE INCUBATOR ARE RANKED AMONG THE BEST 15 COMPANIES TO WORK IN RIO DE JANEIRO

Visagio and EloGroup, graduates from Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator, and Chemtech/Siemens, a resident of the UFRJ Science Park, are among the best companies to work for in Rio de Janeiro. The Great Place to Work Ranking was created in 2008 and it assesses the level of trust of the collaborators in the work environment as well as the best management practices of the companies in Rio de Janeiro. Visagio, EloGroup and Chemtech/Siemens were ranked 4th, 7th and 14th, respectively.

■ Women in Science - L’Oréal Brasil, a company installed in the innovation environment of UFRJ Science Park, gave awards to seven female researchers during the 11th edition of “For Women in Science Awards”, a Brazilian program for female scientists, carried out by a partnership with UNESCO in Brazil and with the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.  Among the winners are a study to develop painkillers for multiple sclerosis patients and a research about climate effects on the extinction of the Amazon and Brazilian Cerrado species.
■ QUALIFICATION - Throughout the month of July, the UFRJ Science Park offered a training program on Innovation and Cooperation Management for the small and medium-sized companies and the startups, residents in the Coppe Business Incubator. The course consisted of two classes and aimed at training entrepreneurs to manage cooperation projects with the University.
■ VISITS - On July 20, UFRJ Science Park welcomed a committee of representatives of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of China as well as representatives of Chinese science parks. On August 1, Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator, a member of the innovative environment of the Science Park, welcomed a group of entrepreneurs from South Korea. This is part of a program of softlanding by Anprotec (Brazilian Association of Science Parks and Business Incubators) together with Samsung, in which the Incubator and the Science Park participate. The pilot experience aims at promoting the interaction of foreign startups in the local business environment.
