ANNIVERSARY | THE PARK CELEBRATES 13 YEARS AND ACCOUNTS FOR MORE THAN 400 AGREEMENTS BETWEEN COMPANIES AND UFRJ |  | The major mission of UFRJ Science Park is to increase synergy between companies and the university so as to turn research and innovation into real benefits for society. In April 2016, the Park celebrates 13 years during which it established 413 agreements between companies and UFRJ laboratories, departments and professors, totalizing 141 million reais. Within the same period, more than 2000 jobs have been directly created. In 2015, 1645 people worked at the Park, among them there were 218 masters and master’s students and 189 doctorate holders and doctoral candidates. Today, the Park has 57 residents, including 14 large companies, 7 small and medium-sized companies as well as 7 laboratories and 29 start ups, residents of Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator. This data appears on the UFRJ Science Park Annual Report of Sustainability which will be presented to the Park’s Board of Directors on June 3. |
TENDER | COPPE/UFRJ INCUBATOR OPENS A SELECTION PROCESS FOR NEW COMPANIES |  | The COPPE/UFRJ Business Incubator, an institution which is part of the UFRJ Science Park, opened a call for tenders to select new companies focused on technology and innovation. Applications can be sent until June 15, 2016 and all information is available at the Incubator’s website. The tender aims at filling up to 5 vacant posts and the proposals can be presented by individuals or companies, either individually or in partnerships, and their objective may be the development of a new line of products or services. This can be done either through an existing company or through one to be created. All proposals should meet criteria such as: level of innovation of the product or service, potential of interaction with UFRJ and technical and economic feasibility. Throughout its more than 20 years of activity, the Incubator has supported the creation of 90 companies, responsible for creating more than 1250 highly qualified jobs. |
SCIENCE | CELLEN, A COMPANY OF COPPE INCUBATOR, CREATES THE FIRST BANK OF STEM CELLS FOR VETERINARY USE IN RIO |  | A bank of stem cells for veterinary use that will help dogs, cats and equines was recently created in Rio de Janeiro by Cellen, a resident company of Coppe/UFRJ Business Incubator. Although Cellen is not selling stem cells yet, it is already storing the material and planning on selling it soon. The stem cells are hoped to help treat animals with paralysis, hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, problems with tendons and ligaments, atopic dermatitis, dry keratoconjunctivitis, autoimmune diseases such as type I diabetes, lupus, among other diseases. |
