TEAMS ADVANCING TO STATE
After careful consideration and consultation with other regional directors statewide, Magic Center will not be sharing a breakdown by problem or division of how many teams will be advancing to the State Tournament. However, we are going to let you in on an exciting number:

46

That number represents the total number of Magic Center teams — excluding Ranatra Fusca winners — that will be moving on.
Be sure to stay for the Awards Ceremony, as we will be cheering for a lot of advancing Magic Center teams!

RANATRA FUSCA AWARD

The Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award is presented to teams or individuals who exhibit exceptional creativity, either through some aspect of their problem solution, or an extraordinary idea beyond the problem solution. A successful problem solution is not a criterion for winning the award; rather, the award is a way to acknowledge and encourage creative thinking and risk-taking.
Teams that receive a Ranatra Fusca automatically advance to the State Tournament, regardless of their team's placement. If an individual from a team is awarded a Ranatra Fusca, the entire team advances.

Registration Paperwork

At the mandatory Coaches Training, coaches were notified that they will need to present conduct contracts and media releases in order to receive their registration packet. Please ensure you have these completed when you check in at the Registration Desk, which will open at 7 a.m. in the Cafeteria.
NOTE: Updated versions of these forms have been uploaded to the website. EITHER version of these forms is acceptable.

No-Show Volunteer Workers

We rely on our volunteer workers to get us through a busy day. They make sure that teams aren't interrupted when they perform, that scores get to the score room, that hungry OMERs get fed, that teams get registered promptly and on and on. No-show workers put us in a big bind.
In the event a volunteer worker does not check in at the Worker Check-In Desk in the Cafeteria at least 15 minutes prior to his or her shift, we will call the coach to ask that a replacement worker be sent immediately. If no replacement worker covers the shift, the team will be penalized.
Thank you in advance for your contributions on Tournament Day!

A Note for Advancing Teams

As you can see in the column to the left, Magic Center will have many teams advancing to the State Tournament. Coaches, if your team earns one of those spots, you MUST attend the Mandatory Coaches Meeting immediately after the Awards Ceremony in the Cafeteria. No-show coaches forfeit their team's spot.
For teams that aren't advancing, it is strongly advised that you hang onto your props for one week. It is not uncommon for a team to have to decline its invitation to the State Tournament because of a conflict. In this case, the next team on the list will be offered the spot. If your props have been destroyed, you could miss out on the opportunity.

OMER Award Nominations

OMER Awards, which are named for Odyssey of the Mind mascot OMER, recognize individuals or teams who demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship, exemplary behavior or exceptional talent. Recipients may be coaches, team members, parents, officials or anyone else who exhibits these traits.
Anyone may nominate an OMER Award candidate. Nomination forms can be picked up at the Registration Desk in the Cafeteria, or you can print out a copy to have on hand. A review committee will evaluate all nominations to determine OMER Award winners.
