 Bulletin 1

Last November, organizations, academics and experts from across the Americas came together to form a network dedicated to ending statelessness in the region: The Americas Network on Nationality and Statelessness (Red ANA).

Members of Red ANA believe that all human beings have a right to nationality and that those who lack nationality altogether-- stateless persons-- are entitled to adequate protection. We aim to raise awareness about the issue of statelessness, advocate for the rights of stateless persons, and share information and best practices to defend these rights.

This is the first issue of our newsletter that will provide a medium through which to share knowledge, celebrate achievements, publicize events, and engage members.

First Regional Meeting in Costa Rica

The first Regional Meeting of Red ANA took place in June as part of a broader even organized by the UNHCR "The Brazil Plan of Action and the Role of Civil Society".

By the end of the meeting, members had further developed the structure and operation of Red ANA and created plans for its three areas of focus: the sharing of information and best practices, capacity building, and advocacy initiatives

Country Meeting in the Dominican Republic

The first week of September, Red ANA members met with local organizations in the Dominican Republic to discuss priorities in the country and avenues for collaboration.
