TRACTION: Empowering young people in need

TRACTION gears up for 2017 and needs your help!

TRACTION is expanding in 2017 and wants to provide 168 young people with an opportunity to learn and grow. Planning ahead, we are working to grow the number of places to 288 each year. Your help would be appreciated!

TRACTION works with young people between the ages of 12-17 years to help restore bicycles, small engined machines and motorcycles donated by the community, and along the way learn invaluable practical and life skills.

"I found a whole new world. I didn't know about bikes and learning this way was a wonderful experience. Any chance I will get I will be back in 2017." (TRACTION Participant 2016)

TRACTION Reach
TRACTION also plans to provide opportunities and reach more young people in need by partnering with other organisations to deliver TRACTION programs in new communities. The first of these exciting AFFILIATE partnerships will commence in early 2017.

School holiday boot camps a fantastic success!

TRACTION delivered 4 bike build 'boot camp' programs over the Christmas holidays at our 3 workshops - Capalaba, Moorooka and West End.

TRACTION Bike Mentors introduced participants to bike mechanics, how to safely use specialist bike tools and participants built their own new bike. The coolest part - they got to keep the bikes so now have new wheels to get around town!

Bikes provide independence and freedom and the programs provided the chance for participants to make new friends and build confidence to maintain their own bikes and be active cyclists.

About TRACTION

TRACTION empowers young people in need. TRACTION helps young people positively engage with their communities, discover their talents and create their own future.

TRACTION empowers young people and helps them positively engage with their communities, discover their talents and create their own future.

We understand that everybody learns differently and some young people do not realise their potential in a classroom.

TRACTION provides a safe environment where young people, with the guidance and support of mentors, learn new skills and put these skills into action through participation in real, tangible and meaningful learning activities.

TRACTION programs provide the chance for its participants to restore items donated by the community whilst being supported by mentors and volunteers who provide support and positive role modelling.
