We won! The team are still buzzing from the medal and trophy haul FogHorn earned at the recent Australian International Beer Awards. Our Sligo Extra Stout and Young Americans IPA both won Gold Medals at the AIBA and the Sligo Extra Stout took it one step further winning the Trophy for Champion Stout. Our Monk Magic Belgio Dark Strong Ale and the 4 Saisons in One Day also both won Bronze medals. This was the first time we’ve entered beers to the AIBA, which is the biggest beer competition in Australia and the 2nd biggest of its kind in the world. Open to all breweries big and small and with beers coming from across the globe we are pretty damn happy with the results.
During these warmer months we've decided to inject some more live music into the venue. A regular event now on Tuesday nights is our Home Brew open mic, which sees local musos, poets and writers take to our stage to share their talents. You can read more about Home Brew here.
We also recently launched Craic 'n' Tunes, for lovers of Irish music, beer and food, which will return on the 30th of July and we're also hosting Owen Campbell, one of Australia's greatest slide players, on the 13th of August as he tours nationally and internationally for the launch of his new single.
Across winter we’ve got a few old favourites returning and some new brews hitting the taps. Launched early June, our Dubbel Raisin Extra Stout was this year’s FogHorn Brewhouse contribution to the annual Great Australian Beer Spectapular (GABS) festival held in Melbourne and Sydney. Well received at the festival, the stout is a mix of Belgian inspired ales, British style Stout and the added flavour and aroma of 20kg of raisins added twice during the brewing process. A luscious dark winter brew, it will be pouring across June at both FogHorn venues.
Exciting additions to the taps recently include the return of the Extra Extra Special Bitter, which has not been seen for almost a year, and the launch of the Red Right Hand. We’ve been open over 2 years now and until recently had not brewed a red ale, so now we're painting the town red!
First to arrive on the scene was the Red Corvette, our Red Extra Special Bitter, with the Red Right Hand following hot on it's heels and proving that Red IPAs are a very popular style.
We've also got a upcoming beer named Severus American Red Ale which is currently conditioning in the tanks. What is this beer you ask? How does is relate to the Severus American Brown Ale that we've brewed in the past? The staff are also asking but Head Brewer and resident hype-machine, Shawn Sherlock, is keeping tight lipped. If you can get it out of him let us know!
We’ve also got fresh batches of Roaring 40s Best Bitter, Sligo Extra Stout, Young Americans IPA and Braveheart IPA coming to the taps in the coming weeks. We’ve been busy in the brewery! And keep an eye out in venues across Newcastle and the Central Coast for FogHorn beers hitting the taps. We’ve finally started selling some of our brews to select local venues and the response has been fantastic. Ask for them at your local!
Winter is here. It's as good excuse as any for a some changes to the menu. We have bought back the Pulled Pork Pizza from it's hiatus, and revamped The Capone, our Buffalo-wing-inspired pizza. We've also added Cornbread (with chilli jam butter), and the Trio of Dips to our shares/starters and the Grilled Chicken Breast and Double Bacon Cheeseburger to our mains.
New additions: Trio of Dips, Pulled Pork Pizza, Grilled Chicken Breast, The Capone V2
We continue to launch two or three specials each weekend, but one in particular caught the attention of everybody recently and has gone in to the hall of fame as producing our most popular Facebook post ever. We are of course, referring to the Brisket Burger: slow roasted beef brisket, smoked mozzarella and chilli jam croquette, maple bacon, aioli and bbq sauce on our house made milk bun. The burger was so popular that we had exhausted the first day's supply by the end of lunch!
The exciting news is, with Low & Slow scheduled for Sunday the 2nd of July, we will be firing up our Texan BBQ Smoker and reincarnating this popular burger with smoked brisket. They'll be on the menu from 12pm and they'll be sure to go quickly!
The Brisket Burger special will be reincarnated with smoked brisket at Low & Slow (July 2nd)
