Welcome to InSight, Lutherwood's quarterly e-newsletter! We want to keep you informed on what we are up to and share our story with you!

Friends of Lutherwood will notice this new communique in their inboxes. The name InSight was chosen because it represents our approach to offering you – our partners, clients, donors, volunteers and funders – insights into the many aspects of our work in the community.

As friends, we want to let you know what we are up to, not just in one aspect of our work, but in all our service areas including children’s mental health, employment, housing and family counselling. Why? Because we will never take for granted the very important people behind the scenes who sustain us… you.

Four times a year, InSight will deliver relevant news, offer perspective on our sector, share client successes, highlight staff-written children’s mental health and employment blogs, and let you know about the many ways you can get involved.

Of course, we invite you to tell us your ideas, comments and concerns. And as friends, we will not be offended if you choose to Unsubscribe.

So sit back and enjoy this inaugural issue of InSight.

Amy (not her real name) was a troubled teenager. Her relationship with her divorced parents was strained, she didn’t bother much with school, hung out with the wrong crowd and abused alcohol and drugs. It was when a Lutherwood community worker told Amy about Safe Haven Shelter that her life began to change...

Learning occurs beyond the classroom. Parents play a huge role in educating their children. Because of this, parents and teachers need to work together to get the best outcomes for students. How can we ease parent-teacher tensions and focus on providing the best learning experience for the student?

On Monday, September 14, 2015 over 140 golfers, sponsors and volunteers enjoyed a glorious day of sunshine, friendship, and of course the GOLF! It was a great event and we again had the opportunity to raise FUN and FUNDS for Lutherwood and the Denny’s Café.

Affecting 3-5% of our population, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the leading cause of developmental disability in Canada. Children with FASD have often had their disabilities misunderstood due to limited knowledge and understanding of what FASD is. As a result, many children are still undiagnosed. Learn what Lutherwood is doing to better serve the children and their families living with FASD in Waterloo Region.

Used Bikes Needed!

Imagine being a troubled teen, learning how to recondition an old bicycle, learning to ride it, and then being told you can keep it. It happens each year at our Children’s Mental Health Centre and for some of our kids, it is their first bike.

To make this dream come true, all we need is:
Your old bike + money to purchase replacement parts
Gift Cards
We know families in our community that will struggle with mental health issues as well as financial stress this Christmas.

Your donation of a store gift card will help those less fortunate families shop for good and gifts for their children at Christmas.

If you can support us with either of these requests please contact Sandra in the Foundation office.

Lutherwood is excited to
partner with ChangeIt! An innovative way to round up your change and support the youth at Lutherwood.
Raph Kanai

For more than ten years, Raph has worked as a Child & Youth Counsellor at Lutherwood’s Children’s Mental Health Centre. He makes a tremendous contribution to improving the lives of our youth, and finds he gets just as much back. Listen to Raph talk about one of his most memorable and rewarding experiences.
Our latest community report, Bringing it all Together is now available online.
