The weekend of Aug. 3-4, 2019 is just three weeks away. That weekend is when shoppers get busy spending money on Back-To-School purchases, and the state government exempts certain purchases from sales tax.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday August 3, 2019, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday August 4, 2019, the State of Arkansas will hold its sales tax holiday allowing shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School Instructional Materials, and clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.  All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.

Bottomline, shoppers are ready to buy. Is your business affected?  If your business ready for this opportunity to reach out and invite in new customers and boost sales? We've prepared a free planning guide for our subscribers to help you plan out your Sales Tax Holiday marketing campaign now and be better prepared to profit from this once-a-year tax holiday event.  You can click here to download this free marketing planner, print it out, and take action now before it's too late.

This week we introduce you to an expert on leadership development: Grace Judson. We're excited that Grace joined as a new member of The Greater Berryville Area Chamber of Commerce earlier this month, and we are proud to be able to share her in-depth knowledge on conducting valuable leadership and business training with our Chamber Members. For the next several months she will share valuable information with subscribers of 'The Berryville Chamber eNews' and she has agreed to teach important leadership and management topics at upcoming workshops we are planning for Fall 2019 and beyond.

 "Leadership, Power, and Conflict"

By Grace Judson,

I know someone who equates leadership with power-over, and vehemently rebels at any sign that his business partner wants to encroach on his territory or take an active leadership role in their business. (I’ll call him James.)
I once worked with someone who didn’t have and didn’t want an official leadership title, but who by the simple force of her personality, intelligence, and insight was a powerful thought leader within the organization. (I’ll call her Samantha.)
I have a client who has grown into her leadership role over the last two years, learning that her fears of being seen as bossy or incompetent were unfounded, discovering that she enjoys and can easily hold her own in the company of her fellow CEOs, and realizing what it means to be a respected leader in her industry. (I’ll call her Jenny.)

    What is leadership, anyway?

There are almost as many definitions of “leader” and “leadership” as there are people defining it...

How Having A LinkedIn Company Page Can Help You Land More Business

We’re continuing our series on using LinkedIn for business. This week we’re learning about using a LinkedIn Company Page to get more business.
LinkedIn has nearly 600 million registered users. That makes it the perfect place to build networks and connections.
Building a Company Page on LinkedIn helps you establish more credibility than your personal profile.
  • You can add your company logo and a link to your website or landing page.
  • The company page has a more professional appearance than a personal profile.
  • The company page lets you use advertising like sponsored content to build your connections.
The Company Page comes with a few more places you can optimize as well than the personal profile. You can use your company logo in place of a headshot, for instance.
Another way you can optimize your Company Page is by sharing valuable content through documents (PDFs, PowerPoints, and white papers), videos, SlideShare presentations, and other media aimed at your target market.
Yet another valuable feature of building and maintaining your own Company Page is the built-in content suggestions.
Company Pages are always visible, even to those who don’t have a LinkedIn account. So, it’s important to have consistently current content available... you'll never know who will be seeing your pages.
Anyone can like your Company Page and see your posts. They then share, like and comment on your posts and those then appear on your page. Users can tag your page in their posts, so then their followers can visit your page and follow you. The end result is that you gain even more prospective connections.
Sign up today. Be sure to
click here and check out our step-by-step digital online workshop videos on LinkedIn for even more reasons it’s important to have a LinkedIn Company Page.

Speaking of Old Things....Vintage Berryville Postcards Allow Us To Step Back In Time

Check out some of the vintage postcards we found last week while cleaning out old files at the Berryville Chamber office.... postcards featuring Berryville likely 100 years ago. We got a kick out of sharing them on our Facebook page (please Like and Follow us if you don't already) and more than 900 people felt the same way over the weekend.  Here are a few showing the historic downtown public square, likely just 50 or 60 years after the founding of Berryville back in 1850.

Please enjoy, then Like and Share these treasures with others. Next week we'll add in some scans of random postcards picturing scenes around other parts of Berryville.  Click on each photo below and they will open in a new window on your computer so you can view them full size.
