KazziE-Bulletin September 2015

From the President

Our first bulletin was mailed out back in March, and the first newsletter for the year was mailed out in May, followed recently by a mail-out of notices of upcoming events. We apologise for not keeping members regularly abreast of news – a combination of high postage costs and the difficulty in obtaining voluntary skilled services. We thank Fortis Josephides for editing our May newsletter, but he is unable to continue this task. At our last committee meeting it was decided that we would produce two newsletters annually and send out an electronic bulletin monthly to fulfil the need to keep everyone informed. Please print out copies for your relatives/friends who are not on our database. Some printed copies of the E-bulletin will be available at the Club for those who do not have access to email.

I hope to welcome many of you at the Gala Dinner on 17th October at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Association, in celebration of the club’s 90th anniversary. If you haven’t made a booking yet, you will need to be quick. Please also note the dates of events detailed in this bulletin.

If you missed “Treasures from Kastellorizo – from the Cabinets of the Memory Keepers “, and the excellent talk by Nicholas Bogiatzis on Kastellorizian jewellery and other artefacts, held at the club on 15th and 16th August, there is a round-up of the event on the Anagnostis E-Magazine: www.anagnostis.info

KAV Heritage collection

The Kastellorizian Association of Victoria holds a vast and rapidly growing collection of heritage items – prints, paintings, plaques, artefacts, costume items, textiles, photographs, a reference and audio-visual library, hard-copy and electronic archives and an extensive electronic photographic collection. With pro- active and aggressive acquisition policies in recent years our collection has expanded considerably.

During this 90th year of the Kastellorizian Association of Victoria come along to the clubrooms where our Curator, Florence Livery will open up the archives and museum so you can see for yourself the KAV Heritage Collection. Hear her talk about key items in the collection, recent donations and best finds, her favourite items and the direction we would like to take our Heritage Collection into the future.

The talk is part of the Pleasant Sunday Morning Program and will be held on 8 November at the clubrooms.

Recent events Seniors

Seniors: A large contingent of Seniors enjoyed a bus trip to the rhododendron gardens in the Dandenongs on 2nd September, followed by lunch at the Cuckoo. There was singing and dancing and everyone had a really fabulous time. Thank you to all the seniors who came along to make it such a successful function.

Pleasant Sunday Mornings

Pleasant Sunday Mornings: The talks at these events have been most informative and enjoyable. Attendances numbers were fairly small. It is hoped that now that the weather is promising to be milder that more people will come along to these occasions. The mornings were put on the Agenda because people were asking for them. If you would like to see these Sunday morning events continued next year, then please let us know if you will support them.

Treasures from Kastellorizo

Treasures from Kastellorizo – From the Cabinets of the Memory Keepers.
This event was staged at the clubrooms with the support of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and attracted good media coverage. It was very well attended and the club was packed for the talk by Nicholas Bogiatzis. We saw several Kastellorizians visiting the club for the first time, and some we had not seen for a long time. If you didn’t attend you missed a splendid event. The display and talk were filmed and the film is currently being edited.
