Leave a Legacy

Dear <<First Name>>,

Just a little news update this week on our new legacy leaflet which is out now. October is free wills months for those of 55+ so it's a perfect time to consider making a contribution to Jamyang Leeds in your will.

With Love from Kerry and all at Jamyang Leeds

Remembering the Work of
Jamyang Leeds in Your Will

We've finally got around to making this leaflet which has been a few months in the making. There's no getting around it, death happens. So if you've children and/or assets such as a home or savings and people you want to look after when you're gone, it's vital to sort a will. And autumn is a good time - at this time of year all sorts of offers open up that let you get a 'free' or cheap will done professionally.

Please consider supporting Jamyang Leeds in your will.
You can download the leaflet here
You can also fill in the form online here

Here is some recent info from "MSE" on free/cheap wills this month:
  • October is 'Free Wills Month' for those aged 55+ in Eng, Wales & NI. During 'Free Wills Month' you can get a gold-standard, solicitor-drafted will. The scheme runs across Eng, Wales & NI, yet don't dally - appointments go quick. It's 'free' for straightforward wills for single over-55s or couples doing 'mirror wills' (those that are nearly identical), where at least one is 55+. The scheme's run by charities in the hope you leave them something in your will, though you don't have to.

  • Get discounted or half-price wills. For residents in Eng & Wales, we've blagged £40-off codes from Farewill* for £50 single wills (norm £90) or £95 joint wills (norm £135), when you enter the code msesave40. You draft it online and a specialist checks it. It's free to update during year one, but Farewill charges a £10/yr fee after for unlimited updates - though you can cancel this.

Or get a half-price will from Which?* via this blagged link, wherever you live in the UK. Again, you draft it online and a specialist checks it, but you'll get a bit more than with Farewill as you can get it printed, professionally bound and stored for a year at no extra cost. Single wills are £84.50 (norm £169), joint wills £129.50 (norm £259), till Wed 31 Oct.

  • November is Will Aid month. Here, whatever your age and wherever you live, you get solicitor-drafted wills in return for a suggested (cheaper-than-normal) £95 charity donation for single basic wills, or £150 for a pair of basic 'mirror' wills. See Will Aid info.

  • Discounted DIY wills. If you've a straightforward will and are confident making a legal document, going solo online could save a packet. Full options in discounted DIY wills, where you can do it from £22.

Fundraising Campaign Launched

In case you missed it, we just launched our second phase of fundraising for the re-fit of the new building.

Please share this link with as many people as you can via Facebook/Instagram/twitter etc.

https://www.gofundme.com/buildingacommunity-jbcl

Here's how you can help:

(1) Merit-Making

This is the key to any success. We were recommended to recite Tara Praises and to do Tara and Medicine Buddha practices.

Pledge to recite Tara prases here
Pledge to recite Tara mantras here
Pledge to recite Medicine Buddha Mantras here

At the centre we'll also keep organising these practices so as a group we can create merit.

(2) Donate

Today we launched our GoFundMe site where you can make donations, including gift-aid, which will help us raise the funds needed. You can also subscribe to mini-updates and download the app!

View the new GoFundMe site here:
https://www.gofundme.com/buildingacommunity-jbcl

Or you can simply make a bank transfer, or use our website to make a donation.

Our aim is to raise £100,000. Any money collected will only be used for the new building. Should the sale of the property not complete for any reason, the funds will be kept for the next building we find for our new home.

(3) Create a Fundraising Event

Since our last campaign you've been creative with your fundraising: in the last year alone you helped with auctions, selling home-made items, Wellbeing Days, guess the smarties, market stalls, and as a centre, we ran events such as 24-hour sutra marathon and yoga classes. Give you any ideas? Contact us if you'd like help with a fundraising idea.
