COVID Response Team (CRT) update

One year ago this week, Calvin announced that classes would move online due to COVID-19. What a journey it has been since then, filled with challenges and uncertainties as well as adaptability, creativity, and accomplishments!
We’re grateful for all we’ve learned since then which allowed us to continue on campus even during the most recent spike in cases. We’re also grateful that students’ cooperation with the recent two-week enhanced social distancing measures led to such effective results. Their strong participation in weekly asymptomatic screening clinics and prompt reporting of COVID-like symptoms is helping us continue in a positive direction.
How have we been phasing in more student life programming? What gives us hope for this spring? What may campus life look like this fall? What’s the latest on vaccine distribution in Michigan? See the March 2 and March 9 CRT updates for details.

Calvin Chat: Career Center

Join us next week Wednesday, March 17, 1:30 p.m. EDT for a Calvin Chat with Career Center director TaRita Johnson via Facebook or YouTube. We’ll be discussing resources for job and internship searches, career coaching, Calvin LifeWork programming, and other professional development resources. Send us your questions:

Students can take advantage of this month’s Career Center Workshop Wednesday programs:

  • March 10: Virtual Career Fair prep
  • March 17: Interviewing Do’s and Don’ts
  • March 24: Employer Perspectives on Social Branding
  • March 31: Budgeting and Credit Tips

Academic advising: March 23, April 14

During the next two break days, students will meet with their faculty advisors to be cleared for fall course registration. This is a good time for students to check their academic progress using self service (also known as their academic evaluation report). Students are able to plot out all the required courses for their major, core, and any minors or other requirements on a semester-by-semester plan. Learn more about advising »

Note: If you missed the Calvin Chat: Academic Support Resources, we encourage you to watch the recording to learn about the wide range of resources offered through the Center for Student Success.

Let’s go Knights!

Winter athletic seasons are just wrapping up, and both fall and spring sports will be playing this spring – the most Calvin teams we’ve ever had competing at once! In this Conversation at the Round Table video, athletic director Jim Timmer summarizes what it takes to keep Calvin athletes in action this year.

Calvin Parent Council winter meeting

The 17-member Parent Council met via Zoom in late February. Council members learned more about the Center for Intercultural Student Development and the Kinesiology Department, and they spent time talking with student life leaders about challenges and encouraging moments their students have experienced this year. Meet these parents who represent you!
