Tutoring, study skills support

The Center for Student Success provides in-person tutors for core and intro courses; drop-in help sessions for calculus, statistics, chemistry, physics, and computer science; and academic coaches who help students with time management and study skills. Encourage your son or daughter to explore these resources, and remind them that it’s a sign of strength to tap into all of the resources available to help them succeed.

Emotional wellness resources

National statistics indicate 30–40% of college students deal with anxiety and depression, and the Center for Counseling and Wellness team is eager to help students learn and grow in their management of difficult emotions so they can thrive at Calvin.

These include self-help options (such as a Wellness Room and access to Therapist-Assisted Online), weekly groups (feelings toolbox, expressive arts, anxiety, and mindfulness), a Calvin Unmasked peer support app, and short-term individual sessions. Students can review these resources and get connected by filling out the online sign-up request form at calvin.edu/go/counseling.

Study abroad

It’s time to plan for study abroad experiences in summer and fall 2022! Calvin offers fall semester programs in Ghana, France, Hungary, and Peru as well as spring semesters in Britain, Spain, Honduras, and Washington DC. In addition, there are a dozen May term shorter study abroad experiences now open for application. Learn more »

Calvin also has scholarships available specifically for study abroad experiences. Students must apply for scholarships for spring and summer 2022 programs via AcademicWorks by September 30.

Family Weekend updates

Family members are invited to open family climbing at the rock wall on Saturday, October 2, but space is limited and advance sign-up is required. Tickets for the Calvin-Cleary hockey game and the Calvin-Hope volleyball game are free with advance sign-up.

Can’t make it to campus? Have your family compete together virtually in the Trivia Knight on September 29, or join families from 17 states who are participating in the Virtual Calvin Classic 5k.
