The Muir Messenger | February 19, 2018

Hello Muir families,

It's a fun week ahead, with Read Your Heart Out on Thursday. Details are below. We hope you can join us.

Please click on THIS LINK to take you to the Muir climate survey. This survey only takes a few minutes to complete, but it's helpful for staff to be able to gauge parents' impressions of our school community. Your input is invaluable in planning for the future!

Ms. Goltry needs scorekeepers for Book Bowl. The 5th grade competes Thursday, February 22 at 10:30am. The 4th grade competes Monday, February 26 at 10:30am. Both grades will meet and compete in the LMC. Please contact Molly Goltry if you can help with scorekeeping ( Parent are of course welcome to attend the competition to support students. Thanks for lending a hand.

Finally, have you contributed to our classroom/teacher wish list yet? It's just been updated with some items for 2nd grade teachers Shannon Richards and Jen Greenwald. These in-kind donations really make a big difference to Muir, so thanks for taking a look
HERE and seeing how you can help out. Our gratitude!

Have a great day,

Kathleen Spencer, President,
Traci Janikowski & Scott Wildman, Co-Vice Presidents,
Lennie Marcott, Secretary,
Andrea Southgate, Treasurer,

Friday, February 23. "Live at the Muir Apollo Theater." Black history program, 9:15-10:30am; classroom read-ins, 10:55-11:25am; adult-only luncheon 11:30am-12:30pm. All members of the Muir community are welcome to be a part of each classroom's read-in event, where adults will join students as they read books about and by African Americans. Please let your child's teacher know if you can make it.
Kudos to our art teacher Kati Walsh for her support of Black History Month! She was featured in a local news story HERE. Congrats and thanks for your hard work inspiring all of our Muir students. (P.S. This news story also provides a terrific look at why Black History Month is so important. Enjoy.)

Big welcome to Marianne!

The PTO is glad to welcome Marianne Richardson into our Muir community. She is our new school secretary and we are thrilled to have her here. Marianne shares a few tidbits about herself:

I am originally from a small town in northern Wisconsin called Glidden. Oregon has been my home for the last 27 years. That is also the amount of time I have been married to my husband, Bryan. We have been blessed with two wonderful children: Samantha is a graduate of UW Platteville, and Nikolis is currently a freshman at UW Platteville. We are very proud of both of them and all they have accomplished. I received a degree in Physical Education and a Coaching minor from UW Milwaukee. For the last 24 years I worked at La Petite Academy (Early Child Care Center) in Oregon. I was proud to be the director and school-age teacher. Now, I'm happy to be a part of Muir's great staff! I have enjoyed my time here so far, and everyone has been very patient and helpful. I look forward to meeting all the students, parents and teachers. Thank you for making me feel so welcome.
