The Muir Messenger | April 16, 2018

Hi Muir families,

Thanks to everyone who pitched in to make our book fair and staff appreciation snack bar possible last week. We needed a lot of volunteer help to make these things possible, but you guys came through! We are grateful for your help. ALSO, if you didn't get a chance to shop our book fair or you're looking for a book that wasn't in stock, you can do it online until April 19. Check it out HERE

Muireka is rapidly approaching! It's not too late to sign up to play a part in our annual family science night. Details below.

Finally, our
playground install is set for Friday, April 27. Click HERE for all the info and to sign up to lend a hand. And YES, you can still make a donation, by clicking HERE. If you make it before April 15 and it's $250+, your name will be added to our awesome playground signage! Thanks to EVERYONE who has shared their time and generosity (especially the folks and businesses listed below) to make this playground a reality. It's going to be fantastic.

Have a great week,

Kathleen Spencer, President,
Traci Janikowski & Scott Wildman, Co-Vice Presidents,
Lennie Marcott, Secretary,
Andrea Southgate, Treasurer,

P.S. Shout-out to teacher Erica Hemberger for volunteering to be our Boxtops coordinator next year! We are glad to have you on board, Ms. H.

Gigantic thanks to our $250+ playground donors, who will all be featured on playground signage. (If you want to be added to this list, April 15 is the deadline to make your gift!) Please note this list is NOT finalized; if you see an omission or mistake, please email Jess Yehle ASAP at We apologize for any inadvertent mistakes.

This is your PTO!
This week we are delighted to recognize and thank Karin Horler, whose children are Ian (2nd grade) and Brynn (6th grade at Spring Harbor). Since 2012, Karin has volunteered in many different ways, including reading in the classroom, helping with math, photocopying, shelving books in the book room, and helping at occasional PTO and school events. "I really appreciate the small class sizes and the dedicated teachers and staff at Muir," she says. "I also like how the PTO makes it easy to get involved in a variety of ways, so parents can choose what works best for them."
One of Karin's favorite family-friendly meals (because don't we all want more recipes for things our kids will eat??) is a an easy go-to chicken marinade. In a bowl, mix two parts salsa, one part lime juice, and one part Dijon mustard. Marinate chicken for a few hours or longer, and grill or bake. Yum. Thanks, Karin!

It's spring! Our teachers always have new ideas and needs for projects and supplies in their classrooms, especially now that the weather is getting nice again. Click HERE to make a classroom donation that will be greatly appreciated.
