If you've been in these autumn afternoons, you'll have noticed that things are quiet.
Big kids are off to school, and toddler families tend to be risers, which means the morning spots can fill up.
With only so many teachers, and spots available three months in advance, the best way to get the spots you need is to book in advance. Or, you can double your options this fall, by taking membership to our second centre at no extra cost. That means 6 chances to book and up to 80 hours of care per month.
From Oct. 1 to Dec.16, we have flexible 1:4 supervisory care happening daily at both centres from 9am - 3pm. Happy Hour Care, from 3 - 5pm, is available in 15-minute increments, for $9 each. We're happy to help, and since our ratio is closer to 1:2 during the late afternoons, the Happy Hour rates cover the cost. You can save money by coming back asap. Click here for more info.
We're not the only ones changing our fees...
Costs are changing for BC families in full-time care this winter as well, for the better. This week, the BC government announced huge new investment to reduce fees for families at full-time centres by as much as $900/month.
While they still won't support families in flexible programs, it's definitely a win for affordable childcare overall. Maybe they'll extend it next year...? If we keep asking...?
The childcare advocates' $10aday Campaign has a prefilled form to send an email of thanks to the ministers for their work towards more affordable care, and you can edit it to ask them to extend the benefits to flexible care as well. You can also send enquiries to ChildCareBC.Engagement@gov.bc.ca. Feel free to cc us! Thank you for taking the time!
In the meantime, Buddings needs to diversify...
We love providing flexible and creative care for families. We love our social programs, and the power of group learning, and we definitely love technology, that makes buying and booking a breeze. It's what we do!
When licensing gives you sour childcare restrictions... make sweet daycare lemonade! But make it for pets...
At Scamps Pet Place you'll find a fun program of physical and mental activities for cats and dogs, and a grooming salon that makes maintaining healthy hygiene a snap!
Our daycare and grooming centre will open in the new year, and in October, we're rolling out our neighbourhood walks and community boarding services to families in the Cedar Cottage neighbourhood.
Our first online staff orientation session is happening Thursday Sept. 29, at 4:15pm, with another planned for the first week of October. We're looking for health-focused walkers and rollers who love animals, and are willing to work in any weather to keep them healthy and safe. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to join the session, or click here to apply for the job, with no resume required!
If you've got pets, friends who love pets, or curiosity about pet care, check out the How It Works video to find out more!
What else can we do...? 🤷
Don't worry. Buddings is still focused on childcare!
Our mission to offer flexible child services has never been dependent on subsidies, and we know families make choices based on value.
We will continue to develop programs, like our full-day Winter Break camps from Dec. 19 - 30, 2022, and form partnerships with neighbourhood houses and other family-focused organizations (like Baby Go Round!). We're exploring an Out of School care option, plus...
Our next Pop Up Shop is happening on Oct. 22!
It's donations weeks at 2loops Family store - our clothing and accessories recycling initiative - and our next in-person event will happen on Sat. October 22, from 11am - 2pm.
To participate, sort clean children's clothes and accessories by size, and book an appointment to donate.
