I have now been in the CEO role for 12 months and in that time whilst dealing with normal day-to-day requirements, have also been busy focusing on two primary objectives. One, establishing a strong team and two, setting clear strategic direction for our Shire moving forward.
I am really excited to announce that we have made significant progress on both fronts.
At an Executive level, the Shire has been doing it tough for quite some time. The last substantive CEO of any tenure was Matt Gilfellon and Matt left us way back in 2019. The Shire also lacked expertise in heading up our corporate services (finance) and our technical (works & services) areas for a lengthy period of time. These key positions were filled by very capable and experienced professionals (Danika Allday & Darryn Watkins). Unfortunately, Darryn has decided to leave the Shire and return to the private sector (new job in Esperance). The hunt for a new Director of Infrastructure begins.
Despite these leaderships challenges, the Shire just got on with it. Our fantastic administration and works teams have been extraordinary in their ability to deliver services with minimal direction. It’s been great to see these guys do their thing in a most thorough and professional manner.
We are slowly building a very capable and strong team, together with terrific oversight by our amazing Shire President & Council. It definitely feels like everyone is on the same page and working together as one.
I would like to extend an open invitation to anyone I haven’t caught up with yet (and those that I have) to drop into my office for a catch-up chat. I maintain pretty much an open-door policy so please feel free to drop in and say hello.
There’s so much to get excited about in relation to our new direction. It won’t necessarily be easy, and it shouldn’t be, but it certainly won’t stop us from giving it a red-hot crack! 😊
This is the first of my CEO community updates, look out for others going forward.
