From the CEO's Desk

Hi Everyone,

I have now been in the CEO role for 12 months and in that time whilst dealing with normal day-to-day requirements, have also been busy focusing on two primary objectives. One, establishing a strong team and two, setting clear strategic direction for our Shire moving forward.
I am really excited to announce that we have made significant progress on both fronts.
At an Executive level, the Shire has been doing it tough for quite some time. The last substantive CEO of any tenure was Matt Gilfellon and Matt left us way back in 2019. The Shire also lacked expertise in heading up our corporate services (finance) and our technical (works & services) areas for a lengthy period of time. These key positions were filled by very capable and experienced professionals (Danika Allday & Darryn Watkins). Unfortunately, Darryn has decided to leave the Shire and return to the private sector (new job in Esperance). The hunt for a new Director of Infrastructure begins.
Despite these leaderships challenges, the Shire just got on with it. Our fantastic administration and works teams have been extraordinary in their ability to deliver services with minimal direction. It’s been great to see these guys do their thing in a most thorough and professional manner.
We are slowly building a very capable and strong team, together with terrific oversight by our amazing Shire President & Council. It definitely feels like everyone is on the same page and working together as one.
I would like to extend an open invitation to anyone I haven’t caught up with yet (and those that I have) to drop into my office for a catch-up chat. I maintain pretty much an open-door policy so please feel free to drop in and say hello.
There’s so much to get excited about in relation to our new direction. It won’t necessarily be easy, and it shouldn’t be, but it certainly won’t stop us from giving it a red-hot crack! 😊
This is the first of my CEO community updates, look out for others going forward.
Shire of Dumbleyung Mainstreet Masterplan Destination Inputs Survey - Closing Soon
The Shire of Dumbleyung Strategic Community Plan has now been launched and includes a number of key project initiatives and activities that aim to transform our community and economy. The four key community messages that underpinned establishment of the Strategic Community Plan were to ‘Increase population. Attract new businesses. Be a destination and Maintain our facilities.’ The Shire of Dumbleyung is now looking for and seeking community feedback around big and bold ideas to put our towns on the map. The aim is for the Shire to become a Destination in its own right.
Three well attended community workshops were recently held that successfully drew out a number of new and innovative ideas. This short survey has now been prepared to offer an opportunity for those that we unable to attend any of the workshops to provide their input.
All ideas will be considered in the development of a final plan that reflects a shortlist of the most impactful considered concepts. No idea is a bad idea at this initial stage.
Survey responses are encouraged and should be submitted with the Shire by no later COB Friday 1st July 2022.

Please follow the link to complete the survey, click HERE
Paper copies of the survey are available from the Dumbleyung Shire Office.
THANK YOU CLAIRE!

Over the past few months, we have had the pleasure of having Claire in our office completing the workplace learning portion of her traineeship with the Dumbleyung CRC.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the Shire to provide Claire with exposure to local government administration, records, finance, and tourism processes to aid in her learning but also to provide a helping hand to the Shire team. Claire was very tech savvy in Microsoft programmes, quickly grasped new finance concepts and worked very efficiently on graphic design tasks.

We would also like to thank the CRC for reaching out with the proposal to host the CRC trainee once a week, it has been a great experience all-round.

Claire, we wish you all the best in your future learnings and employment endeavours.
