The HopLine: BC craft beer news from What's Brewing
HopLine April 28 Banner The Parkside Brewery

Hello everyone,

High five to Strange Fellows and other organizers of last weekend's HopCircuit! It was a HUGE success and I've heard from a few of the breweries that the event attracted many first time visitors and new craft beer fans. Would love to see this as a regular event.

Fuggles& Warlockis open! I'm visiting them this weekend so I'll report more back to you next week. In the meantime, head out to Richmond yourself to check them out if you can! Tasting room and growler fills seven days a week and Keeping Beer Weird.

Brewery Feature: The Parkside Brewery is set to open very The Parkside Brewery Logosoon; June 8th 'ish' in fact! Vern Lambourne (formerly of Granville Island) & Sam Payne (formerly of Red Truck) have partnered to open Port Moody's fourth brewery. Final work is under way on their 100 seat tasting room, a cask engine has just been installed and inspections are being done. Mike'sCraftBeer gave us a sneak peek in this post at earlier construction. Looking forward to opening day guys! Follow their Twitter and Instagram for updates.

VanBrewersVanBrewers Annual Awards Gala is coming up on Tuesday May 10th at the Cobalt and tickets are on sale now. There will be beer, medals, raffle prizes, general merriment and more beer. VanBrewers is a group of homebrewing enthusiasts who promote the craft in Vancouver. They are a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and advancement of homebrewing and beer appreciation. New members welcome. Note: They are looking for volunteers to sort entries (May 3) and steward at the judging (May 5, 6, 7). It's a fun gig if you want to help out. Beer League Part II

Beer League Part II

The new wave of craft-centric sports bars

‘Sports Bar’ isn’t what you think of when you picture the new wave of craft beer tasting lounges. Despite the prominent place professional sports holds in Western society, the modern taproom has evolved as an oasis of urban culture bereft of good ol’ hockey fights on Saturday nights.

Now, the move is on in the sports bar sector to appeal to changing tastes of beer drinkers, and certain outlets with formerly pedestrian beer menus are leading the way in attracting the craft crowd.

Customer education is part of the burden, and they’ve accepted it. Raise a glass to these pioneers who have recognized that a craft-focused beverage lineup is worth the investment.
